Candidate: Barbara Revels

Meet Barbara Revels, Candidate for Re-Election, Flagler County Commission District 3 Barbara Revels grew up in Flagler County, the daughter of Catherine Wilson the founder of the Flagler Beach Historical Museum and the granddaughter of George Wickline former County and City Commissioner. Barbara graduated from Bunnell High School in 1970 and started a real estate career shortly thereafter. By 1976 she had started her own company. Later in the 1980’s she began a career in the homebuilding industry and by 1986 became a general contractor. Her business Coquina Real Estate and Construction has been building and selling houses for nearly 40 years. Barbara was elected as the first woman President of the Florida Home Builders Association, sat as one of 15 area representatives across the United States representing Florida and Puerto Rico and was given the prestigious “Builder of the Year” Award in 2005. She served over the years on numerous statewide committees by Governor appointment and locally Chaired the Flagler County Planning Board among other assignments. Barbara was elected to the Flagler County Commission for District #3 in 2008. During her seven years in office she has: Focused on efficient government that serves the people it represents. • Kept a watch on the balanced budget to keep mileage rates low. • Participated in the planning and oversight of numerous construction projects to “value engineer” and complete them at or under budget. • Saved the Carver gym from closing and has supported efforts to improve and maintain that vital community asset. She worked with a core group to obtain a Violence Against Women Federal grant for a safe exchange house to serve families in crisis. This is now operating and known as “Sally’s Safe Haven”. • Has Chaired the Economic Advisory Council that has over seen a successful three year growth in jobs and lowering of unemployment in the county. Currently chairing the Tourist Development Council, the Public Safety Coordinating Council and the Florida PACE Funding Agency. Serves on the Department of Juvenile Justice council, the executive Board and regular board of the River to Sea Transportation Planning Organization. Outside of Government committees and councils, Barbara serves on the Florida Hospital Flagler and Flagler Cares boards of directors. Is president of the George Washington Carver Foundation. She has also assisted in the citizens group that created the Hammock Nature Conservancy. Barbara is married to Jerry Lloyd, has one son Jed Revels, a career engineer in the US Merchant Marine industry, primarily serving on U.S. Government pre-positioning ships. Barbara enjoys, yoga, biking, walking, camping, fishing and Flagler County’s beautiful outdoor environment. Barbara will continue to work for the betterment and preservation of our community.
