Candidate's Statement

THE RIGHT CHOICE To the residents of Flagler County, As your Sheriff my mission will be to make Education and Communication the cornerstones of the Flagler County Sheriff\'s Department,so that we will have one of the best Sheriff Departments in the country.I will continually educate and communicate with our Police Officers and Residents of Flagler County, treating every resident with the respect they deserve. Respectfully yours, Tom Dougherty Thomas Dougherty is a veteran Law Enforcement Officer, Teacher and Father with over 30 years of public service experience. While growing up in New York, Thomas learned his work ethic by watching his Father a W.W. 2 Veteran and New York City Police Officer and his Mother a Registered Nurse work hard every day to provide for their family of five children. Shortly after Graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, Thomas was hired by the New York City Police Department and served 20 honorable years of service under the leadership and crime reduction strategies of Mayor Rudy Giuliani,Police Commissioners William Bratton and Raymond Kelly. These strategies resulted in New York City being transformed from one of the most dangerous cities in the world to one of the safest. Thomas along with many other N.Y.P.D. officers were responsible for conducting crime reduction tactics that are practiced around the world today. During his 20 years on the streets of New York City, Thomas responded to over 25,000 calls for Police Service ranging from minor incidents to the 911 World Trade Center Terrorists Attacks. Over the course of his career Thomas received numerous awards for Excellent Police Service and was never involved in a Police shooting nor cited for any improper Police conduct, a tribute to his outstanding training and personal attributes. Thomas has received extensive training in every aspect of Police work from basic Verbal Communication skills to Homicide investigations. Upon being promoted to Sergeant in the N.Y.P.D. Thomas was instructed in leadership and training techniques which resulted in many of the Police Officers under his command receiving Police Service awards and most importantly each officer returning home safely to their families. As a supervisor Thomas worked closely with the N.Y.P.D. Patrol, Detective and Emergency Services Divisions. Thomas also received extensive training in Anti- Terrorism identification and response. Thomas was honored to work with Department Chiefs and Captains learning inner management, personnel and business skills. Along with this Thomas was required to learn and implement COMPSTAT, an important information based weekly strategic meeting with fellow city wide Supervisors and Officers designed to develop more modern and effective Police Services. After completing his career with the N.Y.P.D. Thomas returned to school and completed his Masters Degree in Education where he learned invaluable Communication and Teaching skills. Thomas was then hired as a School Resource Officer Deputy Sheriff for three years at a large High School in Brattleboro,Vermont where he was responsible for the safety and security of over 1,500 students and faculty members. While there Thomas taught Criminal Justice and worked closely with School Administrators creating a student led Anti-Bullying program, community fundraisers, successful strategies for At Risk Students and School Safety Security plans. Thomas also served on the local Diversion Board, a proven world wide practiced program that requires Criminal Offenders to make positive contributions to their home communities. After his successful service with the Sheriff\'s Department Thomas subsequently moved to Palm Coast to be near his family and enjoy the many gifts of Flagler County. Tom is currently a Teacher in the Flagler County School District and is committed to improving the lives of our young people. He is an active member and volunteer in many local and national organizations. I am ready to turn our Sheriff\'s Office into a great organization. Please vote on 11/8/2016. *NOTE* My name will appear on the ballot as a NPA(no party affiliation) candidate. I have no affiliations or obligations to any political party.
