Candidate's Statement

New Leadership, New Direction, and True Integrity John Lamb’s diverse experience over the past 22 years with the Jacksonville Sheriff\'s Office clearly illustrates his qualifications to lead the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. His vision of leadership, new direction, true integrity, and commitment to community partnerships shows an innovative and fresh commitment to public safety. In July of 2015 John began the process of retiring from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. He and wife Nanette, along with their four children are ready to be active members of the Flagler community. John rose quickly through the ranks of the Duval County Sheriff’s Office, starting as a corrections officer in 1993, becoming a patrol officer the same year. John gained valuable and extensive experience as a street cop. He worked as a bicycle officer where he learned and practiced the importance of community involvement and building and maintaining trust between police officers and community. The lessons he learned on the streets stayed with him as he advanced to sergeant and lieutenant. As lieutenant John quickly began advanced career development with the goal of making the Jacksonville Sheriff\'s Office one of the premier law enforcement agencies in the nation. As a Commanding Officer assigned to the Community Affairs Division John was instrumental in bringing innovative programs to the community (Teen Driver Challenge, Be Brave Gun Pledge, and Stranger Danger Safety.) While assigned to Community Affairs, John commanded the Crime Prevention Unit, School Resource Officer Program with officers in over 50 middle and high schools, Safety Education Officers, International Affairs Unit, D.A.R.T. and HUD Units. Deeply involved in Crime Prevention John understands the importance of the community/law enforcement partnership and the successful results they can bring to a community. After working 2-½ years in Community Affairs, John was put in command of the Continuous Improvement Unit. John quickly understood and adopted the innovative Lean and Six Sigma tools and used them to make positive change in the Duval County Sheriff’s Office. Many cost and time savings innovations were implemented under his command. John recognized that leadership and continuous improvement go hand in hand and created the “Leadership related to Continuous Improvement” curriculum for the Jacksonville Sheriff\'s Office Leadership Development Institute. In May 2010 John was appointed as the Assistant Chief of Logistics and General Support in the Services Division. As the Assistant Chief, John learned the behind the scenes running of a large police agency. John’s responsibility included much of the Agency’s operating budget, encompassing the agency’s fleet and fuel, property and evidence areas. Under John’s command, pioneering programs were implemented to address costs savings (alternative fuel, solar power advancements, and uniform advancements.) January 2013 John was assigned to operations as a Patrol Zone Commander. As the Zone Commander, John oversaw more than 160 patrol officers, sergeants and lieutenants, traffic units, beach patrol, and a community problem response team. John commanded police service to a population over 192,000 and addressed a large array of community issues and UCR crimes. John believes that there is a purpose in life for all of us. God has given him this opportunity to continue his commitment to the community. He is proud to join with the other men and women of law enforcement who are working to build a safer and more livable community.
