Candidate's Statement

Tom was born in Leesburg, Florida and is a 4th generation Floridian. He was raised and educated in a small town in Northwest Volusia County and holds dear the values entrenched in him by his family and community. Flagler County has always been near to his heart as he spent many summer days on and around Flagler Beach doing all the things teens do. Although he left the area to live and work for a number of years, Florida called him home. Upon his return, he attended and received his Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Flagler College. Tom is married to Stacy and is the father of two sons. He is an active supporter of many local organizations including the Rotary Club of Flagler County where he serves on its Board of Directors. He also serves as Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida and is on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity of Flagler County. Prior to beginning his career with the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller, the majority of Tom’s professional career was focused on personal lines insurance and the residential construction and renovation industries. In 2009 Tom was given the opportunity to help lead the Clerk’s Office into the future when he was chosen for his current position as Chief Operations Officer. In his role as COO, Tom is an integral part of the Clerk’s management team. He has played a major role in all Clerk operations, including: Transition to a paper-free office, maintaining relationships with all agency partners, and compliance with Florida Supreme Court Administrative Order 14-19, providing open online public access to court records. He also travels the state extensively to participate in statewide Clerk of Court educational conferences and workshops. In addition, Tom makes numerous visits to the state capital to work with legislation on pending Clerk of Court issues.
