Candidate's Statement

I am Scott Trotter. I was born and raised in Wichita, Ks but have spent most of my adult life traveling the world in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant 2014. When I was getting ready to retire after 21 years of service my first big decision was where to live. Way back in 1996 I was sent to Pensacola Naval Air Station to attend a week-long class. Although I wasn’t here long the city made an impression on me and after talking it over with Sonja, my wife of 22 years, we decided to take a chance Pensacola and have never regretted it.\r\n\r\nDuring my career in the Air Force I lived in Texas, Kansas, Mississippi, South Korea, Florida (East Coast) and New Mexico. I was also deployed on three occasions to France, Iraq and the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad Pakistan. While in the Air Force I served as a Financial Analyst managing the budgets of the Space & Missile Center, detainee operations in Iraq and America’s anti-terrorism assistance to Pakistan. In my final assignment I served as the Chief of Financial Operations for the Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center. I’ve spent a career scrutinizing large complex budgets, a skill I’m bring to Escambia County.\r\n\r\nWhile on active duty I completed my bachelor’s degree in History from Columbia College and was accepted into the University of West Florida’s graduate program. Since moving to Pensacola I’ve completed all the required course work for a master’s degree in history and I’m currently finishing my final research project into the origins of segregation in Pensacola following Reconstruction in the 1870s and 80s.  When not working on my master’s degree I’ve worked on an extensive renovation of the little brick house we bought in Warrington. After a life of moving every 4 years we’re putting down roots here in District 2 and hope to live out the rest of our days here.\r\n\r\nI decided to run for the District two seat only after realizing that no other progressive was challenging Doug Underhill and his campaign against public transportation and advocacy for reduced funding for public schools in order to fund vouchers for parochial schools. I will work to make Escambia County’s mass transit system better, reduce our effect on climate change, improve our infrastructure, prevent urban sprawl improve our public schools and prevent the transfer of public land on Pensacola Beach to private interests.
