Candidate's Statement

A little about myself.

I am a parent of two children, both graduates of Citrus High School. My son is an apprentice lineman studying to become a journeyman. My daughter is a student at the University of Tennessee, a member of their ROTC program and a member of the Tennessee National Guard. Upon graduation, my daughter will enlist in the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant.

In 1993, I graduated from the University of Central Florida with my Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies. At this time, my plan was to attend law school, but it’s very expensive. So, I decided to take some time off to make sure that law school was the correct avenue for me to travel.

While taking a five year break from school, I worked for several law firms in the Orlando area while also continuing to work at Walt Disney World, a job that I had held since I was 16. Working as a secretary/paralegal, I assisted the attorney both in and out of the courtroom. Once I decided that a future in law was what I wanted, I applied to the University of Florida College of Law.

In January 1998, I began my law school education. I graduated over the summer of 2000 with my Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida College of Law. While completing my last semester of school, I began working at the Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office. The summer of 2000 is what started my career working for the people of the Fifth Circuit.

What sets me apart from my opponent is my experience. I have spent the last 24 years in the courtroom. When I began my career at the State Attorney’s Office over the summer of 2000, I was paired with a licensed attorney and given a misdemeanor docket to handle. While prosecuting this docket, I handled cases ranging from minor traffic citations to DUI, petty theft and possession charges. After some time on the misdemeanor docket, I was transitioned to the felony docket where I was responsible for handling cases ranging from felony drug possession up to attempted murder.

In January 2004, I left the State Attorney’s Office to begin working in private practice for the then law firm of Militello & Militello, PA. For the next several years, I handled cases involving divorce, child custody, dependency, civil and criminal defense. Then, in July 2007, I opened my own practice here in Citrus County. I continued to handle Family Law, Criminal Defense and some Civil Litigation.

In November 2013, I decided to return to the State Attorney’s Office as an Assistant State Attorney. When I first returned to the office, I handled the Citrus County Juvenile docket and specialty courts, which included Mental Health Court, Drug Court and Veteran’s Court. I remained in this position for five years before I was transitioned to a position to supervise new misdemeanor attorneys in the Hernando office. After some time with the new attorneys, my skills were needed back on a felony docket where I remained until August 2022. The office had an opening in the Special Prosecution Unit handling Sexual Crimes, Crimes Against Children and serious domestic crimes. I am still a prosecutor in this unit handing some of the most serious cases.

During my 24 years as an attorney, I have handled thousands of cases in the courtroom. In addition, I have handled more than 100 trials, both jury and non-jury trials. I have argued countless motions, including bond revocations, Motions to Dismiss, Motion to Suppress, Child Hearsay and 3.850 motions.

I have the courtroom experience necessary to be a knowledgeable member of the bench. I will be prepared to start as your new Judge on day one due to my extensive experience in the courtroom.

Experience matters!!!
