Candidate's Statement

I’d like to introduce myself to my fellow Lynn Haven residents.  I’ve lived in the city since 2004, when the Air Force transferred me and my family to Tyndall AFB.  My service in the military spanned 22 1/2 years with assignments both overseas and stateside.  My primary role was as a medic but my last six years were spent overseeing 200 staff and $3 Million in resources as Squadron Superintendent.  After retirement, I continued employment with service-related organizations.  My current position involves working in family advocacy.  These experiences and my instinct to serve, have led me to pursue representing Lynn Haven residents as their commissioner.  On a personal note, I’m the proud mother of two successful children who are now grown and have families of their own.  I have two bachelor degrees--one in Military Management (AMU) and one in Education (Cal U of PA), as well as a master’s degree in Management (Public Administration concentration) (AMU).

My unique and diverse background would be a great asset for the city and it’s citizens.  I’m currently using these skills as Lynn Haven’s Chair for the Infrastructure Tax Oversight Committee. I’ve worked with individuals from all walks of life and led teams to successful outcomes.  This includes emergency medical response during aircraft mishaps, hazardous material spills, vehicle accidents, and troop deployment processing.  I developed training plans, devised budgets, inspected military bases for their readiness capabilities, and served as a consultant to command headquarters. My daily contacts with families requiring advocacy services have enhanced my understanding of the needs facing our community and their loved ones.

I’m prepared to represent the citizens of Lynn Haven and be the voice of the average person. Listening to you all--your concerns, priorities, obstacles and accomplishments would be my focus. Our community is more than what’s important to one individual or business.  It’s about coming together as a unit to rebuild our lovely city, lend a helping hand to our neighbors, and be a positive example for the rest of Bay County.

If elected, there are some areas I’d like to pursue on behalf of residents.  First, continue the work the city manager, mayor and other commissioners have begun in obtaining funding to get the city back on it’s feet, structures rebuilt and services back on line.  City officials have done a notable job in using general and enterprise funds for this purpose and I’d be in favor of continuing this practice.  Looking into the future by six months to a year, I’d be a proponent of re-emphasizing the city’s goal of resurfacing our streets and replacing deteriorating water/sewage lines. Other long-range issues I’d address include, in no particular order; getting our library and other recreational services funded and operational, re-establishing  a recycling drop off location, finishing the rails-to-trails project, and striking a balance between economic growth and a family friendly community.

There will be opportunities during the campaign for you to meet with me but I also encourage you to reach out via email if you have questions you’d like for me to address.

V/r,

Pam Hiller
