Candidate: Cathi Compton

School Board Member District 1 Cathi Compton is honored to be a candidate for Pasco County School Board Member, District 1. She is running for School Board in order to make a difference in the lives of our children because she knows that our children are our future. Mrs. Compton has the personal and professional credentials required to be elected to the School Board. Cathi Compton has resided in Zephyrhills since 1993 with her husband and their three school-age children. She has two teenage daughters in high school and a five-year-old son who will be attending kindergarten in August. Mrs. Compton is personally aware of the challenges parents and administrators face to maintain a public school system that will provide a quality education for our children. Cathi Compton is a long term believer and supporting parent of the public school system. Cathi Compton is distinguished by her professional credentials, which include service as an elected official in Pasco County’s second largest incorporated municipality. Mrs. Compton has twice served as President of the Zephyrhills City Council. She has also served as Vice-President and been a member of the council for the past seven years. Mrs. Compton’s service also includes: Florida League of Cities, Municipal Association of Pasco, Pasco County Metropolitan Planning Organization, Leadership Florida and the Institute for Elected Municipal Officials. She resigned her council seat in January so that she could run for this school board seat. Cathi Compton is already familiar with City, County and State government and understands the importance of strong intergovernmental relationships. She has developed a rapport with many local elected officials from all levels of government. Mrs. Compton understands that to make good policy, one has to understand the effects of implementing that policy. She also has many years of budgeting experience which provide her the invaluable skills necessary to effectively manage the vast Pasco County School Board budget. Lastly, Cathi Compton knows that as a candidate for school board, she must be in touch with the schools in which she seeks to lead. For the past two years she has served on the School Advisory Committees for Centennial Middle School and Zephyrhills High School. She has also attended over 15 School Board Meetings during the last few months. Mrs. Compton’s commitment to our children is further distinguished by her personal meetings with talented teachers and administrative staff in 36 schools throughout the county during 2006. In conclusion, Cathi Compton will utilize her personal credentials and her previous elected office credentials to bring a new voice and proven leadership to the Pasco County School Board. Mrs. Compton will constantly seek innovative ways to help our teachers help our children excel.
