Candidate's Statement

I am a lifelong resident of West Pasco. I attended Gulf High school where I graduated in 1996. After high school graduation I attended Pasco-Hernando Community College. I graduated from there with an A.S. degree in Marketing in July 2000. Since completing high school I’ve held several management positions with construction and retail businesses. My background is primarily in managerial and administrative work. The most important lesson I’ve learned in business is that it can always be made to operate more efficiently. When we’re able to cut costs in business a business becomes more profitable and can pay out dividends. When we cut costs in government we make it run more efficiently and the dividends are paid out in tax cuts. A government is just like a business. The government is in the business of serving the people. A government, whether federal, state or local should always operate in a fiscally responsible manner. That means it shouldn’t be wasteful. Government at every level should work not only to find ways to streamline their budget but also work to cut taxes. The Pasco County Mosquito Control Board needs new blood. Elect me and I pledge to run the board like a business that will put the taxpayer’s interests above everything else. Platform: If elected I will implement a plan to cut the salary of the mosquito control board commissioners in half to $2,400. They’re currently paid $4,800 a year. The mosquito control board commissioners only meet once a month along with holding several special meetings each year. They only work an average of ten hours a month. I believe they’re overpaid and their wages need to be cut for the benefit of Pasco County’s taxpayers. I will impose term limits on board commissioners. They will be limited to being elected to two terms. After they’ve been elected to two terms they won’t be eligible to hold office again. This will allow other people who are interested in politics the opportunity to become elected. People in general are apathetic to politics and that needs to change. One of the reasons is that incumbents become too strong over serving several terms in office. This “political strength” is what keeps new candidates from having any serious chance at beating an incumbent in an election. I will work closely with the other board commissioners to streamline the department and eliminate any waste where it occurs. I will work to educate Pasco residents on how to cut back on the mosquito population through better education. One of these efforts would be to post public service notices and flyers which would be given out at all county offices.
