The Duval County Soil and Water Conservation District was created in 1953 to help citizens make the best possible use of our precious soil and water resources. Additionally, the District functions to support prosperous agricultural enterprises and educate the public on agricultural and conservation-related issues. PUBLIC VS. PRIVATE FUNDING I am a strong believer in the free market and the power of private enterprise. Considering our current budget crunch, the Board has wisely chosen to reduce the amount of public funds it has requested from the city. Whenever taxpayer dollars can be saved, that is a good thing. By fostering relationships with the business community I believe we can find ways to fund ambitious new programs without spending more of your money. EDUCATIONAL ROLE I feel that the board should pursue new low-cost educational programs to generate increased interest in the field of agriculture, as well as the proper use of our land and water. These projects could be funded via grants or in cooperation with local sponsors. When I am elected, I will make this one of my top priorities.
