Candidate's Statement

Rodney Braden has been a lifelong member of the Destin community. He was born and raised in Destin, where he learned the ropes of the charter boat business as a boy working with his father and grandfather aboard their charter boat, The Bimini, as a deckhand. He later earned his captain’s license and ran charter boats himself. Rodney later found a new calling and began Rodney’s Home Repair in 1990, which remains a successful business today. His upbringing has allowed him see the evolution of Destin over the past four decades, and gives him an interesting perspective on the development of Destin. Rodney’s love for his community and his desire to give back led him to volunteer with the Okaloosa County Sherriff’s Posse and the Okaloosa County Search and Rescue dive team for 10 years. His sense of duty to his fellow man also led him to help build shelters for the victims of hurricane Katrina, as well as donate his services to aid in the construction of the women’s shelter in Destin. Most recently, he donated his time during the BP clean-up effort in the hopes of preserving our beaches. Rodney’s wife, Jaime, is a nurse practitioner who is currently practicing at Emerald Coast Cancer Center. Their daughter Riley, attends Destin Middle School. She loves to play violin, and has been a member of the volleyball and swim teams at DMS. Their youngest daughter Kasidy, is a student at Destin Elementary, who enjoys dance, cheer and soccer. Both girls have received the Citizenship Award at Destin Elementary. Rodney’s oldest daughter Terra, continues to reside in Destin with her husband, where they plan to raise their family one day. Rodney hopes that he can continue to serve the city he loves, by providing a voice to his fellow citizens. Having seen the changes Destin has been through over the years gives Rodney a unique perspective of what Destin was, is, and could become. He hopes to serve his city by helping to maintain Destin’s integrity, and to shape it’s future while preserving it’s history.
