Candidate: Daniel J. Kurek

Most people who know me know how much I care about our county, our residents and our businesses.  Over the past  35 years, I have been honored to work or volunteer for St. Lucie County, Port St. Lucie and numerous other local organizations.

After much thought, I have decided to pursue the vacant District 2 seat on the St. Lucie County Commission. My extensive experience in local and county government offers the opportunity to elect a Commissioner who fully understands the county budget and has deep knowledge of county operations.

We have great opportunities in the coming years to expand our efforts on job growth. After many years of frustrating delay, we are within striking distance of impactful development of two of the county’s most important economic development assets – the port and the airport.

We need to support local businesses while encouraging new businesses to locate here to meet our resident’s needs, provide jobs and benefit our tax base so we can keep residential tax rates low. As someone whose children moved away in order to advance their careers, I understand our need to grow our business base so our children and grandchildren have the option to choose to live here.

As a longtime fishing enthusiast, I am passionate about the fight to save our waterways. This vital goal needs the focus of every stakeholder – our county, our cities, our agencies, our state and federal governments – and each of us individually. As Commissioner, I will ensure that the county does everything in its power to save our rivers and I will hold other levels of government accountable for their part as well.
