Candidate's Statement

I’m Howard Wesson, after careful consideration and speaking with family, friends, and neighbors I am proud to announce my candidacy for County Commission in District 4. Glenda Wesson, my wife of 43 years, and I moved to Franklin County in 1980. Glenda's father, Hobart Lolley, and mother, Ora Lee Howell, were from here. Hobart taught me to oyster, and I spent many years as a commercial fisherman. I've caught everything from oysters, to shrimp, and grouper, fishing next to many of you.

After commercial fishing, I took a job with Oyster Radio as an announcer on air. I progressed to sales, and eventually became the general manager. This lead me to work closely with many of the nonprofit organizations, businesses, Chamber of Commerce for Apalachicola and Carrabelle, and as a director of the Florida Seafood Festival, after retiring as a three time oyster eating champion.

While working at Oyster Radio I met Olivier Monod, owner of Anchor Realty, who talked me into getting a Real Estate License. During my time with Anchor Realty, I became a top producer.

Approximately 11 years ago, I attended a Franklin County Commission meeting where the need for EMS personnel in Franklin County was discussed. On my own initiative, I attended Gulf Coast State College and got my EMT certification. Later on, the County Commission discussed a need for Paramedics that lived in the county. I returned to Gulf Coast State College and gained my Paramedic certification. I have spent my entire EMS career on Franklin County ambulances.

Glenda, and I, along with Peewee and Buddy (our four legged kids) enjoy fishing and camping throughout Franklin County, and we are active members of St. Patrick’s Church in Apalachicola.

I wish to continue with my public service as your next County Commissioner and believe my life experiences qualifies me to make decisions best representing a majority of Franklin County citizens. I would be a “hands on” Commissioner, and promise to be accountable. Your support, and vote, would very much be appreciated!

If you would like to speak with me give me a call at 653-5770.
