Candidate's Statement

I am Tamara Allen. I would be honored if you choose me on November 6 to be your new Commissioner for Franklin County District 2 based on the strength of my professional and personal experiences.

My Carrabelle roots began when my grandfather, Dan Bibb, moved to Carrabelle in August of 1914 to work at the Marine Grecian Bank.  My daddy, Bob Bibb, was born in Carrabelle in 1918, went to school and grew up here. I was a young child when he helped me catch my first fish here in Franklin County at the former Wilson’s Beach Cottages. Although I have worked all over this country, my husband Cal and I chose to retire here because Franklin County is truly in my blood! Carrabelle is my home. I am deeply passionate about this place. I love its history, its beauty and more than anything the folks who share it with me.

My skills and experience

I have worked in public service, private management and leadership positions for 40 years on behalf of rehabilitation and employment opportunities. After working at state and national levels, I re-directed my skills and focus toward Carrabelle and Franklin County.

·       Serve on the board of Franklin's Promise, the countywide nonprofit coordinating organization, providing my expertise in management organization and demonstrating loving care for some of the neediest citizens of our area. Serves as the President and chair of the Unmet Needs Committee.

·       Member of the Franklin County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), serves as a trainer for new members.

·       Together with a local board of directors, created a local nonprofit agency called Carrabelle CARES, successfully dedicated to attracting resources to Carrabelle and Franklin County.

·       Served as the original and now volunteer program manager for the Carrabelle Waterfront Partnership, which began as a state supported program for resource development in 2007.  At present we organize public activities in the 5 areas of the vision and plan for the Carrabelle Waterfront.

·       Founding member and current President of the Carrabelle Food Pantry.

·       Attend and proudly serve as leader of the board of Ascension Episcopal Church in Carrabelle.

·       Started the Carrabelle Historical Society and serve as the founder, volunteer director and manager of the Carrabelle History Museum in the original City Hall on Avenue B. Our museum has grown from the first donation of midwife Tillie Miller’s nursing bag, trustingly given by Rita Brown Millender, into today’s comprehensive displays of Carrabelle area history dating back thousands of years.

My Concerns:

·       Protecting, preserving and promoting our treasure of unique natural resources which serve as the foundation for our economy.

·       Planned growth resulting from responsible choices benefiting all our citizens, including children, workers and retirees.

·       Employment opportunities for all who seek work.

·       Stabilize and improve our local health care system.

·       Promote new opportunities for youth to encourage and inspire them to be their best selves.

District 2 of Franklin County needs experienced management and our fair share of all that is possible. I have a life time of experience working for others to help discover and secure their share of opportunity and resources.  Let’s create a powerful vision for Franklin County’s future together. I would be happy to come talk to you and your group. Email me at Tamara4district2@gmail.com or call me at 850-524-1153.

Please vote for me and give me the opportunity to look out for you and District 2!
