Candidate's Statement

As a healthcare professional and successful businessman, Bert Boldt has been an active member of the Franklin County community for many years.

A graduate of Andrew College and Wake Forest, Bert studied to be a physical therapist at The University of Pennsylvania, then moved to Tallahassee to open:

Tallahassee Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Services, LLC in 1973.

Bert joined the Franklin County community in 1983, where he and his wife, Sheryl, reside in Alligator Point. He has been actively involved in civic affairs through membership in organizations such as the Carrabelle Airport Advisory Board and Alligator Point/St. Teresa Association.

Semi-monthly involvement as a citizen with County Commission meetings gives Bert a first-hand look at the vital importance of citizen access to the commission. It’s a primary reason Bert is running.

What kind of Franklin County do we want for the future?

Franklin County is at a crossroads. Decisions made by our county commission today will determine our course far into the future.

Development: We need to encourage development that brings quality jobs and expands the tax base. But future development must preserve the fragile coastal environment that makes our area so special.

Healthcare: Early in my campaign, I was looking for a way to bring financial stability to our local hospital. Sadly, that no longer seems possible. We need to reorganize our entire healthcare system and stop subsidzing our financially failing and burdensome hospital. Let's consider other healthcare delivery models. There are quality alternatives to a freestanding hospital in Fanklin County while preserving our 24-hour emergency services. I can use my four decades of healthcare management experience to find creative solutions. Other small communities have solved this problem ... so can we.

The Role of Local Government: Too many average citizens feel they are losing – or have already lost – their access to local government decision-making. I want to change that, by serving as an active bridge between the citizens of our district and their local government. After all, it’s your government.

Your vote for me  this election can give District 2 a strong voice on the county commission.
