Candidate's Statement

Don Monroe was born in Orlando Florida in 1949. He was drafted in the military in 1970 where he served honorably until his discharge. Don and his wife raised three daughters on a small farm in southeast Ohio. He owned and operated Don Monroe Construction, Inc. He contracted residential and commercial swimming pools, homes, additions and remodeling, roofing, water wells, and septic systems. He drove school bus for 27 years and took his children and others to and from school, kindergarten through senior high all on the same bus. He was involved in negotiating contracts for school employees. He also spent several years changing school boundaries for the betterment of the children in our township. Successfully dealt with township government and their constitutional obligations. Ten years ago, he and his wife retired to Port Charlotte, and with an owner builder permit built the home they now live in. He is now a licensed real estate agent. As your no party affiliate representative, he will diligently continue to work with county commissioners to make changes for the betterment of the residents of Charlotte County. Repairing a broken tax system will be the first priority on his agenda. Let\'s fix it. The iniquities of former commissions are still plaguing people of Charlotte County. It continues with non-advalorem tax funding constitutional obligations with special assessments, which are uncontrolled by the voters. They have placed a non-advalorem lien on every property in our county, which can never be paid off. How do we tell our elected officials to stop this path of destroying our County with all their good intentions? Attending public input meetings has never worked, so people have stopped attending. From the very beginning, the job was to see that roads, drainage, mowing, codes, dredging, schools, water and sewers, sheriffs, and fire departments, trash and parks were maintained by our ad-valorem tax. Selling the county in not an option. They just won\'t stop adding and wanting more than they can maintain. Makes it hard on the rest of us.
