Candidate's Statement

Running for a seat on the Canaveral Port Authority Commission is something I’m inspired to do because the Canaveral Port Charter directs the port authority to help this local community and its people. Port Commissioners have a duty to be responsive to local businesses and voters. I will make that happen by bringing integrity, honesty, and transparency to the Commission. I love where I live, and I believe in making my community a better place to live. As a retired Air Force Colonel with 33 years of military service, I bring the perspective of a career that took me around the world. As is typical with military families, once my wife, Connie, and I decided to make Brevard our home - we jumped right in to become part of the fabric of this community. I have served on the Melbourne Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, PREVENT! of Brevard Board of Directors, and the Brownfield\'s Advisory Council for the City of Cocoa. Connie is a member of the City of Cocoa Board of Adjustment and serves on the Homeowner’s Board for our Condo Association. We love our Brevard County community and have made this our forever home. My military experience includes being a combat decorated veteran fighter pilot with the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, and five Air Medals. Currently I work as a business executive and airline pilot, with two master’s degrees - including a Masters of Business Administration. I understand the importance of strategic planning and careful budgeting processes. I am also a published author, having published two books. It is important for a representative to actually live in the district to which they are elected. I will not skirt the residency law in order to win election or stay in office. My commitment to doing the right thing and fighting corruption at every level is strong. I will do my utmost to ensure the Port Commissioners abide by the charter and truly serve our community. As a career military officer, business executive, airline pilot and published author, I have demonstrated a willingness to endeavor to succeed in varying fields. Seeking a leadership position for our Port Authority is a way to protect and serve Brevard county and outlying regions impacted by this Port Authority. I have the experience, abilities, and commitment to work in cooperation with others to get the job done effectively and efficiently. I will insist the Port Authority always do what is best for the citizens of Brevard. And, I will always insist that the citizens of Brevard have a voice in the shaping of their future. Your vote for me in the primary on August 30th, 2016 to represent you for Canaveral Port Authority District #4 will be very much appreciated. With your help, we can change the direction of the Canaveral Port Authority. www.harveyforport.com
