Candidate's Statement

I was born in Brooklyn, NY. I am married, have five children and six grandchildren. My family has always been community minded. My father taught me that you should always give back something to the community. As an architect, he donated his services in redesigning the “Nativity of our Lord Church in Monroe NJ. My husband was a volunteer fireman for seven years and served as the President of the Board of Health in Ogdensberg, NJ. Recently, I was one of the leaders in the opposition against Compost USA in St. Lucie County. In my early years, I became a community activist, and am one of the founders of the Federation of Block Associations. I later became the founding Chairman and President of a group called Citizens for a Better Neighborhood, organized to protect the safety of the neighborhood, and obtained state grant money to run that organization. I served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Sheepshead Bay Development Corp. which was formed to revitalize the Sheepshead Bay area in Brooklyn. It was during this time that I earned the reputation for being a compassionate person who was down-to-earth, unpretentious, and totally unafraid of expressing my ideas. I went to work in 1981 focusing my career on Wall Street. My years of study and hard work paid off, and I was soon recognized for my abilities becoming a general partner of a New York Stock Exchange member firm, earning the title - Director of Research. Later I became the President and CEO of a SEC regulated publicly held mutual fund. As my career grew, I became the Chief Financial Officer for another highly successful brokerage firm, subsequently became Director of Compliance and Client Services for a highly regarded, registered Investment Advisor. I stayed in the Investment Advisory business until I retired last year. In 2014 I purchased a home in Port St. Lucie. It didn’t take long for me to become involved in pushing back against Compost USA, a company which intended to build an open air human waste sewage sludge composting facility that raised significant environmental issues for the City of Port St. Lucie, the Indian River lagoon, St. Lucie river, and surrounding waterways. I spearheaded a petition and organized a rally against what would be a major environmental disaster in the heart of St. Lucie County involving the newspapers and Television stations. Eventually we prevailed by using the weight of scientific and engineering evidence that resulted in the City of Port St. Lucie, Martin County, and St. Lucie County, all condemning the proposed facility to protect our environment from further assault. I know what it is like to be a working mother and I am especially sensitive to the need for affordable child care, and I will look into the possibilities to obtain grant money for the City to help working mothers offset those costs. I have successfully obtained grant money in the past. I am a candidate for the people of the City of Port St. Lucie. If elected, I will use my extensive knowledge of the business community to help more companies settle here and create more jobs. The City is a business, and I bring solid advice to the councils’ decisions. If elected, I will consider the city council position my full-time job. But, to do the job I must be elected first, so I am asking for your vote to get me there and use my skills for everyone in the City.
