Candidate's Statement

Port St. Lucie Vice Mayor Linda Bartz is in her third term on the Port St. Lucie City Council and has served as the city’s vice mayor since 2010. Ten years on Port St. Lucie’s council have prepared her well for the opportunities and the challenges the county faces. In addition, Linda’s experience working in banking and finance spans more than two decades. First elected to public office in 2006, Linda soon had to put her finance skills to work as the country’s economy began to deteriorate during the Great Recession. Linda and her fellow council members restructured the city’s expenses to keep taxes as low as possible but also made sure to continue to invest in infrastructure and maintenance so the city would be well positioned when the economy picked up. Linda is also particularly proud of her work with the Simon Wiesenthal Foundation to bring the Holocaust Exhibit to Port St. Lucie. Two other standouts during her City Council career were the construction of the Crosstown Parkway and enacting an ordinance to hold gold stores to the same standards as pawn shops. Linda also created a television program to showcase our area’s nonprofit and social service organizations. “Helping Hands” episodes air on the City of Port St. Lucie’s government access Channel 20. She has served on a number of boards and agencies such as St. Lucie County Sustainability Ad Hoc Committee, alternate representative to the Transportation Planning Organization and Treasure Coast League of Cities. She has also been a member of the Lion\'s Club, Council on Aging, Crime Stoppers, Exchange Club, Concerned Citizens, SafeSpace, STARS, St. Lucie County Tourist Development Council, Port St. Lucie Rotary Club, St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County, the St. Lucie County Harbor Advisory Board, Port St. Lucie Historical Society, Hospice Ethics Committee, Concerned Citizens, Big Heart Brigade, and Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens. Linda and her husband Gary moved to St. Lucie County in 1985, coming first to Polk County from New Jersey and then on to St. Lucie. They raised three daughters here and now have four grandchildren. Linda strongly believes that Port St. Lucie\'s District 3 residents should be represented by someone who is actually from the district. She has lived in District 3 for over 30 years. One of her opponents doesn\'t live in the district at all, the other just moved in this summer.
