Candidate's Statement

Pittsburgh native Chris Dzadovsky first visited St. Lucie County in 1994, and made our area his permanent home in 2003. His career experience includes being a volunteer firefighter, 25 years as an airline safety professional for US Airways, during which time he became the Communications Director and Legislative Affairs Chair for the Association of Flight Attendants/CWA. Soon after moving to St. Lucie County, Chris began volunteering in Hibiscus Park by initiating the Neighborhood Enhancement Action Team (NEAT). He was also a Neighborhood Crime Watch captain, and a board member of the Fort Pierce Jazz and Blues Society as well as the AIDS Research & Treatment Center of the Treasure Coast (ARTCTC). He works diligently as a volunteer with many organizations, such as the First Step initiative founded by the Van Duzer Foundation to enhance the lives of underserved youth in Fort Pierce, as well as being an active participant in community and law enforcement efforts to reduce gang violence. Chris participates on a regular basis with the activities of the Boys & Girls Club of St. Lucie County, Special Olympics, and Volunteer St. Lucie. Throughout his terms in office as St. Lucie County Commissioner, Chris has fought through a severe recession to ensure that the county remained financially solvent, while continuing to provide the important services our residents and visitors expect and deserve. He has been a member of the Roundtable of St. Lucie for eight years, where he\'s worked diligently to fund programs that better the lives of children, such as Kids at Hope. Chris currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board of County Commissioners, Vice Chair of the Mosquito Control District, and Chair of the Environmental Control Board. He has been a member of the St. Lucie County Fire District throughout his time in office. Chris is also in his sixth year as Chair of the Tourist Development Council (TDC). Under his leadership, the TDC has provided millions of dollars in grants to the UDT/Seal Museum, Heathcote Botanical Garden, and the A.E. Backus Museum and Gallery. Additional TDC successes include two new baseball fields at Lawnwood Stadium, the expansion of Tradition Field and the expansion and improvement of the Treasure Coast International Airport and Business Center. Chris\'s dedication to our environment is like no other. He is the Secretary of the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program Council, where he fights for a clean and sustainable lagoon system. He is also a member of the Land Acquisition Selection Committee, the Transportation Planning Organization and the Blueway Advisory Committee, as well as being an alternate member of the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council and the Value Adjustment Board. He is a founding member of the Sea-Life Habitat Improvement Project (SHIP), which holds the annual Oysterfest event and donates to oyster bed restoration projects. Chris has received the Outstanding Environmental Services Award from the St. Lucie County Conservation Alliance in 2010, and has served as the President and founding member of the Solar and Energy Loan Fund of St. Lucie County (SELF). In 2012 Chris was awarded the Outstanding Green Elected Official Award by the United States Green Building Council. Chris holds two degrees: an Associate of Science degree in Business, and an Associate of Arts degree in Political Science, both from Indian River State College (IRSC). “ For more information on Chris Dzadovsky, please visit his website at : www.chrisforcommissioner.com “
