Candidate: James 'Jamey ' Capers

As a father of two elementary aged children, the quality of their education is of the utmost importance to me. As a business leader in the area for 8 years, I hired graduates of our local school system, so I became very aware of the quality of the education that our students are receiving before they graduate. After our first child was born, I decided then that I would be involved with my child\'s education, not just a bystander receiving what was dished out by politicians. I believe that a well rounded education starts with insuring that students understand and know more than just a \"test\". They have to be held responsible for learning and be able to accept the consequences of not learning. I want to challenge the status quo and insure that 1st graders don\'t have hours of homework while insuring that as students progress into higher grades, they have the added responsibility of self learning. I also believe that teachers need to be given the support and tools necessary for them to successfully educate my children. I believe the future for our children is bright, but changes have to be accepted. I welcome the opportunity to be part of that change. My family and I have lived in the area for 10 years. My wife and I both work in St Lucie County and are actively involved at our children\'s school. We make every attempt to support the activities and events that are hosted there. Our children were born here and we welcome the opportunity to insure that they are well prepared for adulthood.
