Candidate: Randy Crews

To the Voters and residents of Starke, it is and honor to announce my candidacy to represent you as your Starke City Commissioner District 5 in the upcoming election on August 23rd. 

My name is Randy Crews I’m a lifelong resident of Starke.  We are so blessed to live in such a great City.  I had the privilege of serving District 5 as Commissioner 30 Years ago and would take the opportunity of serving again with humility; understanding the opportunity and the responsibility.

I graduated from Bradford High School in 1976. I received an AS degree in computer System analysis from Santa Fe C.C. in 2001 while working full time for the Dept. of Corrections. 

As some might remember I worked as a cashier at City Hall in 2017 and 2018.  One thing I came to understand is that most of our residents do not understand their Utility bill. As Commissioner I would try to correct that problem with the hope that it would help people learn how to be in control of their Utility usage and lower their monthly bill.  I grew up in the 60’s at the Starke Recreation Department.  In the Summer me and my twin brother would be at the Recreation Center on Pratt Street every day.  Also, we played all the different sports the Starke Recreation offered.  It brings back memories of Mr. Gene Rayburn who was the director when I first played in the different leagues.  After he left Mr. Randall Davis Took over, he was amazing.  After I graduated from high school Mr. Davis gave me my first job I learned so much from him.  A year after Mr. Davis hired me he left the City for a job with the State.  Mrs. Cheryl Godwin (Canova) took over as Recreation Director, we worked together for 3 and a half years. The job she did for 30 plus years as Recreation Director is unmatched.  So as you might have guessed the Recreation Department is very important to me.  Some of the things going on at our ballfields at Edwards Rd and other facilities in the City needs to be corrected.  I would work hard to make sure our kids are learning while having fun in a Family safe environment.

Finally, The City of Starke is in a unique situation not many Cities have an Electric system and a Water & sewer system.  The decisions that will be made the next 5 to 10 years will guarantee these systems stability. Keeping the City of Starke one of the best places to live in America.
