Candidate's Statement

Port St. Lucie has been my home for over 25 years and my children’s life-time hometown and more recently my granddaughters home. I have worked tirelessly to be the determined voice for our City’s residents, businesses, schools and veterans. · In my first year tenure, I worked with state legislators to create a law to protect victims from sex offenders. Through my tireless persistent hard work, legislators created and enacted Brittany’s Law in 2013. This law aids our police officers to investigate suspects charged with sex crimes before being released on bond. · I can also add, under my term as Mayor, Crime fell another 19.3% in 2013, after falling 19.6% in 2012. · I understand that a strong business economy is the foundation of a City. Under my leadership many nationally known business such as Bass Pro Shops, Tesla Motors Recharging station an the academic facility New Achievers Institute have opened up in our city. · Unemployment dropped from 14% in 2010 to 7.2% now. · Additionally, I understand that working together as a team, we are stronger. Thus, I helped form the Business Alliance for Prosperity committee, which is a group of small business owners who meet monthly to strategize successfully our growth, progress & vision. · I believe in a brighter future for our youth. I recognize the importance of empowerment and know our future generation depends on our educators/teachers & leaders of today. · Hence, I implemented the Golden Apple award program which was designed to recognize schools that have maintained high test scores or improve test scores. · In addition, we have a total of 1.1 million already allocated for much needed sidewalks in our city. To also help insure the safety of our school children, seniors and the disabled. I also appreciate the sacrifices that our veterans made to protect our country and the high price of freedom. It has been an honor to seek donations for veterans to take a flight to Washington D.C. to see the WWII Memorial. I am proud to call my hometown a safe place where our heroes live. I would like to point out more of the positives being noticed nationally in our city. Did you know? · Our property values are up 5.25%. According to Florida Realtors, single family homes in our area are up 12% and selling in 63days. The U.S. Census Bureau previously said we had the nation’s highest home ownership rate, with 76% of houses occupied by the owner. In 2013 we moved up again to 78%. We are well above the National average of 65% · The Census Bureau also says we added about 4,100 jobs since 2010 in leisure, hospitality, education and health services. · Forbes recently ranked our city as one of the top 25 Best Places to retire and one of the top 200 Best Places for Business & Careers. · Allstate Insurance Company recently ranked Port St Lucie as one of the 50 safest cities for driving. · I will continue to work on a solution to the Digital Domain & Civic Center financial crises, which were both created by the previous city administration. I am active with the Lions Club, Harvest Food Outreach, Hibiscus and the College Preparatory Academy of the Treasure Coast. I serve as President of the Treasure Coast League of Cities and Chair of the St. Lucie Transportation Organization. I am the people’s voice and sit on the following boards and committees: St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce, St. Lucie County Fire District, Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, Treasure Coast Council of Local Governments, Business Alliance for Prosperity to mention a few. As your Mayor, people are & will always be my priority. I am here to serve you. I will continue to have an open door policy in which I listen to your concerns and respond. · I kept my promise to give 5% of my salary back and in my 2nd term, I plan to give back 50% of my salary to charitable groups that are making a difference & helping those in need in our city of Port St Lucie. If the people want or don\'t want something, that is how/what I support.I still play by the rules of \"MAJORITY WINS\". Not special interests with deep pockets. A good leader places the people first, brings out the best from all ideas and implements the necessary changes. Good leadership also applies wisdom in discerning truth from fiction. Thank you for your continued support. Mayor JoAnn Faiella www.voteforfaiella.com 1512 SE Village Green Drive, Port Saint Lucie,Florida 34952 772-206-6453
