Candidate's Statement

Patrick is an extremely strong and vocal advocate for conservation and clean water. He believes one of the greatest responsibilities of his generation is to educate the next generation on how to care for the environment we all share. With this goal in mind, Patrick serves on the Board of Directors of the Treasure Coast Manatee Foundation, which in conjunction with the Ft. Pierce Utilities Authority, assists in operating the Manatee Observation and Education Center in downtown Ft. Pierce. The foundation, and the center\'s goal, is to educate residents, visitors, and most importantly children about how to protect, preserve, and responsibly enjoy the incredible natural environment here in St. Lucie County and the Treasure Coast. Patrick is running for public office for many reasons, but one of his most important tasks as County Commissioner will be to save taxpayers money. Currently serving as a member of the St. Lucie County Citizens Budget Advisory Committee, Patrick hears from county department heads and other county staff, including reports from the county\'s constitutional officers, regarding their budgets and their capital expenditures. He knows where the money comes from and where it goes. He sees where areas can be streamlined, and where there is waste and excess that must be trimmed. He also enjoys serving St. Lucie County as a member of the Code Enforcement Board. In this capacity, Patrick works hard at bringing businesses and property owners into compliance with the county\'s code. This is our community and it is important that we all follow the rules, especially when violations may occur that will negatively effect property values. Keeping property values as high as possible will save us all money. It is a win for the county and a win for county residents. Patrick is committed to being fair but firm when cases come before him as a Code Enforcement Board member, and he will continue to do so as a County Commissioner. As a member of the St. Lucie County Democratic Executive Committee, Patrick is very active in ensuring free, fair and trouble free elections in St. Lucie County. As President of the Democratic Club of St. Lucie County, he is well known and has been host to events featuring keynote speakers from the city, county, state, and federal levels of elected officials. His professional relationships, from City Hall to Tallahassee, will make it an easier transition into public office, and will serve him well while getting the people\'s business accomplished. Patrick has also been a good neighbor and diligent worker here in St. Lucie County. He is vice-president of the community association where he currently resides, and is an active Freemason with the Ft. Pierce #87 Lodge. For the past six years he has been employed at QVC in St. Lucie West, where he is involved in community outreach as a member of the Community Affairs Committee, and is also active in promoting the good health of employees as a company Wellness Advocate. He has also had the great good fortune to be involved with many worthwhile charitable causes and local non-profit groups that benefit county residents who need a helping hand. Family is extremely important to Patrick. He grew up as one of seven children, and he currently has sixteen nieces and nephews, and one grand-nephew. Residing in St. Lucie County for the past fourteen years with his wonderful wife Christina, Patrick is finishing up his degree in Political Science right here in St. Lucie County at our own Indian River State College. He looks forward to meeting and speaking with the residents here so he may share his story, his ideas, and his passion for our county. His goal is to understand the issues that are most important to the people in this community. By having an open dialogue with those who are invested in St. Lucie County as he is, he can be a champion for the causes we all believe in, and that will make our community the best place to live.
