Candidate: Michael McElroy

I believe the Flagler County School Board can do better. I have been married to Nancy for over thirty five years and raised two children. Both attended public schools and public universities. I spent forty years in law enforcement. During that time I was an instructor for the Westchester County NY Police Academy and the Student Police Academy. Within the public schools I served as youth officer and crime prevention officer, while working with school administrators, teachers, students and parents. I am a graduate of Pace University, NY, with a B.S. in Criminal Justice.I also graduated from the F.B.I. National Academy, Quantico, Virginia and the National Crime Prevention Institute of the University Of Louisville, KY. With extensive training I am a FEMA Certified School Multi-Hazards Planner. I believe that the Federal Government has set out on the most intrusive program ever to be thrust upon local education. Common Core is an untested educational model designed without any input from early childhood education experts. I believe the Common Core testing and curriculum threaten to set back the great progress made in the last ten years. I believe very strongly that school board members should oppose Common Core here in Florida. I believe that Tax Rates must remain stable.I was against last year’s special referendum held the last day of School in June to increase the tax rates. I believe the Flagler Technical Center, on Corporate Drive, in Palm Coast, should not have been neglected for so long that repairing it now requires between three and five million dollars. I also believe that a real national search should have been conducted when replacing the outgoing Superintendent of Schools.
