Candidate's Statement

Christine Dawson is a woman who values family and her many different social circles. She is a professional educator familiar with varied roles in public education. She is an innovator regarding instruction, learning styles, and achievement.

Dawson was born in Akron, Ohio, and moved to Manatee County in 1979 to start a family and continue her teaching work. She raised her two children in Bradenton, with both graduating from Manatee High School. Throughout her career, she never lost her passion for learning, earning two professional licensures in areas that interested her (esthetician and massage therapy). While working as an ESE specialist, she went back to school, earning her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership in order to fulfill her lifetime ambition of becoming an elementary school principal.

Her career in Manatee County Schools spanned from 1979-2015, serving the students of this county for 35 years. The positions she has held include Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, Reading Coach, Instructional Specialist, Instructional Trainer, and ESE Specialist. After her retirement, she signed on to chair the governing board of Lincoln Memorial Academy Charter School, as well as spending time in her new role as a grandmother.

She is a staunch supporter of learning to mastery, remediation through accelerated instruction, and assessment that drives instruction. In addition, Christine possesses a foundational belief that successful educational leadership is built on a philosophy of inclusion- a mentality stemming from a place of “both-and,” not “either-or.”

She believes that a school board must guide using transparent financial management, inclusive educational practices and ALWAYS must lead learning by supporting teaching. A school board member must disrupt only to foster positive, non-partisan change. A school board fosters community, not tribal mentality.

A school board member believes “We are all in this together. There is enough to go around.”
