Candidate's Statement

Scott has been a resident of Manatee County for over 30 years. He and his wife Michele are the proud parents of a blended family of eight which includes Scott’s two sons and two daughters along with Michele’s four sons. All eight children graduated from Manatee County Public Schools and have gone on to postsecondary education and careers.  In addition, Scott and Michele are enjoying their role as grandparents to eight grandchildren.   Scott has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of South Florida and holds a Master’s degree in Education Leadership from NOVA Southeastern University.

The first twelve years of his career, Scott was a financial planner with Market Securities Corporation and owned and operated his own bill paying service in the St. Petersburg/Bradenton area.  In 1988, Scott and his family moved to Bradenton.  His involvement in the school system started at Jessie P. Miller Elementary School as parent and Chairman of the School Advisory Council (SAC).  He was so impressed with the teachers and staff that he went back to the University of South Florida and completed the course work to become an elementary school teacher. The remainder of his career has been centered around educating the children of Manatee County as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal.  In 2009 Scott was selected as Principal of the Year for Manatee County.

Scott is acutely aware of the many critical decisions facing the School Board over the next four years.  His background in business coupled with his teaching experience and leadership in education gives him a unique perspective to address the financial, capital, construction, staffing, transparency and business system issues facing the School District.  Through his experience as a principal for the past 17 years Scott has acquired the insight, knowledge and skillset necessary to address these decisions.  His ability to think strategically and work collaboratively in the development of realistic solutions will ensure that each and every student in Manatee County is provided the tools, resources, and opportunities necessary for their success.
