Candidate's Statement

My name is Phil Lantry and I am running for St. Cloud City Council, Seat 2. I was born and raised here in St. Cloud, and it has been my home for over 43 years. I have seen what this town was like when there were less than 10,000 people here. We now have nearly 70,000 residents that call St. Cloud home. I have experienced the many things that make this town great. We have wonderful parks here and a beautiful lakefront that is like no other in Central Florida. Our quiet little Downtown is a testament to the small-town life that we all love. We must protect the wonderful things we have here for generations to come.

I learned to appreciate the importance of hard work and determination from a very young age. I worked in the construction industry as a plumber for over 18 years and even installed the plumbing in many of the homes here in St. Cloud. I now hold a Master’s degree in architecture from the University of Florida School of Architecture with education in urban planning and historic preservation. In my position as an architect, I provide construction contract administration services on large multi-million-dollar projects including schools, hospitals, sports complexes, mixed use commercial, and performing arts centers.

During the span of my architectural career, I have gained extensive experience with construction contracts, methods, and costs. Serving on zoning code task forces for the zoning division in Orange County in connection with the American Institute of Architects has also given me a unique perspective on urban sprawl and how to prevent it. My focus on the city council, if elected, will be to improve infrastructure, strengthen public safety, expand youth programs, practice smarter spending, encourage responsible growth, and ensure clean water for all residents.

One of my passions is helping people in my community as a member of the St. Cloud Rotary. My public service volunteer experience also includes serving on the Osceola County Fire and Rescue Advisory Board and serving in my current position on the City of St. Cloud Planning Commission. I believe in honesty and transparency. Your city council should be a voice for all St. Cloud residents. I am a problem solver at heart, and I feel that I have been given an opportunity to influence significant changes that will make our community better for everyone!
