Candidate's Statement

Hi! I’m Josh Post, running for Indian River County School Board District 2. I’m humbled at the opportunity to serve you in one of the most important roles in our locality.

I will work diligently to help the School District of Indian River County provide an exceptional education experience for the students and families we serve, and to provide an exceptional teaching environment for our underappreciated educators. What I want you to know is that I am for positive change in the School District of Indian River County.

CORE VALUES

  •  Golden Rule - I Respect others, even those with differing opinions. We may not have the same opinion, but I respect your right to have that opinion.
  • Personal Responsibility - Accountability of all individuals in the entirety of the district is of utmost importance: Board Members, Superintendent, administrators, teachers, students, and parents.
  • High Standards - The bar needs to be set high! The standard is the standard. Lowering standards encourages complacency. When standards are lowered, what really is being said is that the people who lowered the standard don’t believe a certain segment of the population can achieve it.

CORE BELIEFS

  • Social Agendas do not belong in the public school system. Society has churches, civic organizations, political parties, social media and cultural centers to influence people regarding social issues. Each family, whatever its makeup, has the right to live the life they choose to live. Focus needs to be placed on educating the student while preparing them for real world accountability related to their actions.
  • Parental rights & choices regarding education are important to me. Having an active say in your child’s education helps your student know that their education is important not only to you, but also to our community. Having options for students allows them to learn in the most conducive atmosphere for them; whether it’s home school, charter school, virtual school, or attending school in person.
  • The Government is here to serve the people. I am for limited government, fiscal conservatism, local level decision making and common sense. I recognize that philosophies around these topics vary per family and individual, but have a direct correlation to the decisions we make in this school district.
  • Every student has a right to learn. We should not allow disruptive students to hinder other students’ ability to get an education. It is imperative that students and parents know that there are consequences for their actions. We should not limit teachers and administrators from disciplining those students who are disrupting the classroom setting, keeping others from maximum learning.
  • Standardized testing has its place in education, however, we can’t lose sight of the fact that it is not the most important aspect of learning. Progress monitoring will assist parents & teachers moving forward. Educators need to be empowered to teach critical thinking, process oriented thinking and problem solving abilities to enhance the foundational knowledge learned in the classroom.

Education is the key to a successful and vibrant local community. Expanding opportunities in vocational trades is essential for those students that choose to go into the workforce. The grit, work ethic, and determination learned in our local schools will help our local students be successful, productive members of society. Indian River County is a great place to live, raise a family and retire in. The strength of our education system will be the key for us to keep pace with the ever changing world in which we live.
