Candidate's Statement

Pamella A. Seay presently serves as a Commissioner on the Charlotte County Airport Authority which oversees the operations of the Punta Gorda Airport. Though this is a part-time position, she is firmly committed to the success of the airport. She is a professor at Florida Gulf Coast University where she teaches law in the Justice Studies Division. She is an attorney and earned her law degree at the University of South Carolina in 1986, and a BFA in Graphic Design in 1984 from Kendall College of Art & Design in Michigan. Additional information is available on her website, http://www.voteseay.com. While Commissioner Seay has served on the CCAA: • The Air Traffic Control Tower has been built and is operational • Airline Service has been restored at the Airport • More than half a million passengers have flown in and out of the Airport • Enterprise Charlotte Airport Park (ECAP) continues to thrive • Work continues to encourage business to come to Charlotte County • More than 600 jobs including manufacturing, technology, and engineering are located at the airport and the ECAP • Millions of dollars have been added to our economy as a result of airline presence at the airport, including hotels, rental cars, fuel/gas sales, and more Commissioner Seay believes: (1) The Airport comes first! The Punta Gorda Airport is, first and foremost, an airport. Its purpose is to provide safe, quality facilities, including runways, terminals, services, and support for pilots and passengers traveling to or through Charlotte County. Commissioner Seay maintains a strong understanding of current aviation issues by attending and participating in conferences, seminars, and workshops on issues specifically designed for airports and special districts. (2) The Airport exists for the benefit of the community! The Punta Gorda Airport exists as a result of Florida legislation. This legislation mandates that we operate not only an airport but a Commerce Park as well, providing a means of support for the airport, while also fueling an economic engine for the community. Commissioner Seay devotes her expertise in business and international trade to seek out potential business for the Airport and Commerce Park, most recently working with the Governor on an initiative in Brazil. (3) The Airport works best when we work together. That means working together with our local governmental partners, our community leaders, our tenants, and the flying public. Balancing these interests to achieve the most advantageous result is challenging and necessary. Commissioner Seay is a trained mediator and arbitrator, and has years of experience in achieving positive results in difficult situations. Please visit her website at http://www.voteseay.com to learn more about the future of the Punta Gorda Airport and the Charlotte County Airport Authority.
