Candidate's Statement

Dear Voter, Thanks for taking the time to get to know about me and my candidacy for the Charlotte County School Board District 3 position. Originally from the Rochester, NY area, I have been married for over 40 years to my husband, John, and have been blessed with four wonderful children, and two precious granddaughters. I attended and graduated from the Rochester City Schools with a Regents Scholarship. From Monroe Community College I received an AAS degree in Science with honors and was inducted into and served as President of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. I graduated magna cum laude from Nazareth College of Rochester with a BS degree in Biology and a minor in Education. From SUNY Geneseo I received a master\'s degree in Biology. I hold two NY State permanent teaching certifications, one in Biology/General Science 7-12, and the other in Elementary Education K-6. I am a retired teacher who taught middle school science grades 5 - 8, and was a Home/Hospital Teacher for the Rochester City School District. Prior to my teaching years I had varied work experiences as a dental assistant, sales associate with Sears, Roebuck & Co, worked in the Patent and Employee Benefits Departments at Eastman Kodak Co., and was a Deputy Town Clerk in Mendon, NY. Currently I am a licensed FL Real Estate Sales Associate and sell properties in the Englewood/Cape Haze/Placida areas with Tarpon Real Estate Inc. Always a believer in giving back to one\'s community, I volunteered in many different opportunities while my children were growing up including in the classroom, field trips, Cub Scout leader, Little League, PTA etc. I served on the parish council, was a lector, taught in and was religious education coordinator for my church in NYS. In Englewood I have served on the Adult Education Committee and am an usher at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Happily, I am a volunteer at Vineland Elementary School in Rotonda. I gained board experience and leadership skills as a member of the Monroe Community Hospital Board where I served as its secretary and also its chairman. I had many opportunities to bring board members together in collaboration and to vote on many items for the hospital, including multimillion dollar budgets. Education is one of the most important gifts that we can give to our children. While my passion is our children and the classroom, I understand the concerns of taxpayers. As your full time board member, I will thoroughly research all issues to ensure that both students and taxpayers are well served with a high quality and fiscally responsible educational system. My personal experience as a mother, business woman, and classroom teacher, along with my education and leadership skills, give me the ability to become a valuable member of the Charlotte County School Board. My motto is \"Dedicated to Excellence\". Please consider me when you cast your ballot for the August 14th primary! Sincerely, Frances M. Stanwix Candidate for Charlotte County School Board District 3
