Candidate: Richard G Findlay

I have served the citizens of Manatee County for over 30 years as a member of the Fire Service, starting my career as a volunteer firefighter in 1987 with the Braden River Fire Department (presently East Manatee Fire Rescue), and continuing my service until 2001.  In 1991 I began employment with the City of Bradenton Fire Department as a Fire Inspector/Investigator, spending over 24 years in service before retiring in 2015.  My extensive fire service knowledge and service on many Firefighter Association Boards, and a local nonprofit association, provide the tools required for me to help guide the future of the Cedar Hammock Fire District.

My career as a volunteer and a professional in fire service has given me experience in firefighting operations, leadership, training, public education, fire prevention, inspections, and investigations. 

I believe the Cedar Hammock Fire District will continue to see growth that will impact many issues facing the fire district.  It is one of my goals to continue to improve the relationship between the Fire Commission Board, Administration, and firefighters.  Training is an important need as the majority of the firefighters have less than five years’ experience.  The district is also in need of additional firefighters and replacement of aging fire apparatus to insure the department is prepared for the future.  Transparency and the responsible allocation of resources are essential issues in my campaign for Fire Commissioner.

I have been a resident of Manatee County for over 30 years and of the Cedar Hammock Fire District for more than 16 years.  I am married and have four grown children and four grandchildren.
