Preacher Launches Campaign for County Commissioner
James Satcher, a life-long Republican voter and minister by trade, has filed to run for the Manatee County Board of Commissioners. Satcher, 39, borrows a phrase from Vice President Mike Pence by describing himself as a Christian first, Conservative second, and Republican third. He pastored a small church as a young man after he graduated college and Bible school.
Satcher began going to Haiti regularly after the devastating earthquake in 2010, bringing Christmas presents to hundreds of children orphaned by the quake, planting churches, and ministering in Haiti’s prisons. After seven years in and out of Haiti, now he is concerned about America. He believes Manatee County needs more committed conservatives in positions of influence. “We have to change our path,” James said. “First, we kicked prayer out of schools, now we are having to put police officers and bullet proof glass into schools.”
Satcher and his wife Monica have four children with another one due in October. They minister to victims of human trafficking here locally. They were recently elected as co-chairs of the governor-sanctioned Coalition Against Human Trafficking that covers Manatee, Sarasota, and Desoto Counties. Satcher volunteers with Franklin Graham’s “Operation Christmas Child” and led a weekly Bible study at the Salvation Army in 2017. He is a current member of the Manatee County Republican Executive Committee and Manatee County Trump Club.
