Candidate: Michael Chuven

Mike Chuven is retired with 30 years experience in both municipal government and private utility experience, with the last 16 years being in  management.  Mike is also a Navy veteran.  He holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Business Administration and Political Science from the University of Central Florida (UCF).

Mike Chuven has long ties to Holly Hill and East Volusia.  His mother’s family moved to Holly Hill in 1943 where his grandfather ran a furniture refinishing shop on 3rd Street.  His father’s family has been in the Daytona Beach area since the mid to late 1800’s and have a street named after his grandfather, off Clyde Morris Blvd., called Carlisle Drive.

Mike Chuven has been a volunteer most of his life, with both civic and professional organizations, where he eventually was elected Chair or President.  One organization that Mike served was the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC), which is a committee of the River to Sea Transportation Planning Organization, where he served  from its inception, through 8 years.  He chaired the organization most of the years he was involved and was on the committee that wrote the bylaws.  Currently, Mike is on the School Advisory Committee with Holly Hill School, where he also taught a seminar to 7th and 8th graders the art of public speaking through Toastmasters, where he is a member of the Toastmasters at Twelve Club.  Mike plans on repeating this seminar annually, to help the students develop leadership skills.

Mike Chuven likes to spend his downtime with his wife Karen and his daughter Anastasia.  He enjoys yardwork and doing research for 3 novels that he is working on.

Mike has always been a defender of citizens’ concerns when it comes to local government.  “Holly Hill is a wonderful place to live, as Mayor, I’ll focus on the citizen’s quality of life.  They are what make Holly Hill great”.
