Candidate's Statement

Mel and his wife, Marlene, became residents of Daytona Beach Shores in 2001. Since then, he's been involved in a number of volunteer positions, helping to contribute to the City's ongoing success. Prior to his election to City Council, Mel: * Served as Chairman of the City's Board of Adjustments. * Served as Vice President of the Daytona Beach Shores Community Foundation. * Served on the Planning Committee for the City's new Community Center. * Served on the Historical Board which planned the City's 50th Anniversary celebration. * Served on the City's Police Pension Board. A PROVEN LEADER * Proudly served four years in the Marine Corps. * Founder and retired CEO of a successful graphic arts company. * President, The John C. Bogle Center for Financial Literacy. * Forbes.com columnist. * Co-author of two best-selling investment books. * Moderator and contributor to two online investing forums with worldwide readership. * President and VP of the Townhomes at the Oceans HOA for 15 years. * Commercial Pilot and former Flight Instructor. HONORS AND AWARDS * Commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky. * Awarded the Alumni Professional Achievement Award by Delaware County Community College. * Awarded Money Magazine's 2012 Heroes Award for Investor Education. Because of his background and experience, Mel has been featured and quoted in a number of publications, including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, US News and Word Report, Investment News, The Miami Herald, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Investor's Business Daily, The Delaware County Times, The Daytona Beach Journal, American Way Magazine and Registered Rep Magazine. Mel has also appeared on CNN's "The Money Gang" television show. Mel is running for re-election to his current City Council seat so that he can continue using his proven lifetime leadership skills to help keep Daytona Beach Shores moving forward, thus insuring that we can all continue to say "Life is Better Here".
