Candidate's Statement

EDWARD FITZGERALD / FIRE COMMISSIONER Bonita Springs Fire Commissioner Ed FitzGerald has lived in Bonita Springs since 1992. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Pace University in New York City. He retired from the New York City Fire Department as a Deputy Chief after serving for 28 years. Commissioner FitzGerald was elected as a fire commissioner in 2004 and has been re-elected for two additional terms since. He is proud to be part of the most progressive Fire District in Lee County, and will continue all efforts to assure efficiency and effectiveness for the taxpayers of the District. He recognizes the Chief Officers and the Firefighters of the Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District as professionals with the education dedication, and commitment necessary to serving and protecting every person in Bonita Springs. His immediate goal as fire commissioner is to offer his full support to the proposal to seek the approval of the fire-based ambulance transport service to the Bonita Springs Fire District. There is no doubt that fire-based ambulance transport is supported by the residents of Bonita Springs, the City Council, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Firefighters that will provide the service. Fire-based ambulance transport systems have been proven all throughout this Country. The District is prepared to do everything necessary to win the approval of the County Commission. Commissioner FitzGerald continues to believe consolidation of Fire Districts in Lee County is the most efficient way to bring the best fire protection to the residents of Lee County and Bonita Springs. As the economy recovers, more Fire Chief and Commissioners will come to this realization.
