Candidate's Statement

Brian and his wife Pam have owned a home in Indian River County since 2000 and have been Florida residents since 2008. Brian grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, attended Babson College in Wellesley, MA where he earned a BS degree in Finance and Investments and later an MBA in Finance from Pace University in NYC. His professional career spanned over 30 years in financial services where he held senior management positions at both Merrill Lynch and PaineWebber, the latter as EVP and Director of Investment Banking and CEO of PaineWebber International. Upon the sale of the firm to UBS, he became CEO of NeoVision Hypersystems, a New York based technology firm that invented “heatmaps” until its sale in 2001.

In 2001 Brian became the 11th President of his alma mater, Babson College, where he served for 7 years until his retirement in 2008. Prior to becoming President, he was elected to Babson’s Board of Trustees in 1985 and became Chair in 1996. In addition to his 23 years of service to Babson, he served as a Trustee and Treasurer of Kent Place School, a K-12 independent school for girls in Summit, NJ, a founding member of the School for the Entrepreneur at Culver Academies in Culver, IN and a Trustee and Chair of the Advancement Committee of St. Edwards School in Vero Beach where he was instrumental in repositioning the school after the 2008 financial crisis. He still serves on the school’s Investment Committee. Brian currently serves as a Trustee of Burr & Burton Academy, an almost 200-year-old public high school in Manchester, VT. In the aggregate, Brian has over 40 years of experience in education and has served in various leadership positions.

Brian currently is a Senior Advisor to Carl Marks Advisors, a middle market investment banking firm in NYC, a Director of Adjoint, a block chain technology company in Boston, a Director of Ethic Bank in Boston, a member of the Investment Committee and past Finance and Audit Chair of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, an Advisory Board member of Harmoney (Auckland, NZ), Little Harbor Ventures (Marblehead, MA) and Vocap Investment Partners (Vero Beach). Brian is also a Trustee of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (Bennington, VT) and Vice Chairman of the Cleveland Clinic Indian River Medical Center Foundation where he was the past Chair of the Audit Committee.

Brian was elected Mayor of Indian River Shores in 2013 and served until 2018. In this capacity Brian worked closely with City, County and State officials to affect the sale of the Vero Beach Electric Utility to Florida Power and Light.

Brian and Pam have 3 children, one of whom is a high school guidance counselor in the Boston area, and 6 grandchildren ranging in age from 15 to one year.
