Candidate's Statement

Dear Friends:

I hope that this message finds you and your family in good health.  These last few months have been life altering for all us, especially our local businesses. As a local business owner with decades of experience and a successful record of spearheading county initiatives which support local businesses countywide, I recognize that wise decisions are needed in order to support our local economy.

The work of Indian River County continues. In light of these uncertain times, my work remains as important as ever. County Commissioners are committed to holding our weekly commission meetings even through this time of quarantine. I have joined calls with Governor DeSantis’ Re-open Florida Task Force, FEMA, as well as The White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs to ensure a safe and responsible plan will ensue.

Indian River County is experiencing a significant reduction of local tax revenue to fund the remainder of the budget for 2019-2020. As a result, I have recommended a spending freeze on our budget at last year’s levels for the upcoming 2020-2021 fiscal year.

As your current County Commissioner,  I will continue to protect all families, local businesses, our lagoon, and our incredible quality of life. During these unprecedented times experience really does matter.   Indian River County residents deserve leadership they can count on. My record is solid. A sampling of my accomplishments includes the following:

Protected Families and Businesses through Job Preservation, Tax and Utility Savings Efforts

  • Remained steadfast in supporting sale of Vero Beach Electric to FP&L to lower electric bills. Saving local rate payers over $22 million dollars annually.
  • Initiated proposal to house all State, Federal & County elected officials at one stop facility in State where office is at one address.
  • Saved valuable jobs with Girard Equipment from moving out of county through effective collaboration with owner, Tim Girard, 2017 Entrepreneur of the Year.
  • Successfully worked with long standing local family owned boat building company to stay in IRC and not move jobs out of County.

Protected the Indian River Lagoon

  • Held 4 Indian River Lagoon forums. Presenters included over 50 researchers, water quality experts and water district representatives from across the state.
  • Initiated the Bethel Creek Phase I flushing study.
  • Voted “YES” to implement the summer Fertilizer Summer.
  • Voted NO to dredging the Oslo Boat Ramp seagrass beds.
  • Voted “YES” for the Wabasso & Sebastian Septic to Sewer projects.
  • Voted “YES’ to purchase additional land for the Osprey Acres Stormwater Park & Preserve.

Protected Quality of Life

  • Voted “YES” to remove Indian River County from the SEVEN50 Regional Plan.
  • Voted “YES” to ban the application of Bio Solids (sewage waste) on pasture lands.
  • Voted “YES” for Boys & Girls Club and St. Francis Manor land lease.
  • Voted “YES” to purchase of the Dodger Town Golf Course to preserve green space.
  • Voted “YES” to purchase land for future west county Park on 82nd Avenue.
  • Attended over 30 local, state, and national meetings regarding Bright Line Train project. Issues included safety, financial feasibility, court hearings and community meetings.
  • Brought sense of urgency to the BCC to hold regularly scheduled meetings to explore Workforce/Affordable Housing solutions.

I am deeply committed to my work as one of your County Commissioners. As always, please contact me at any time if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Tim Zorc
