Steve was born in Philadelphia and raised on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. As a youth Steve worked as a sailing instructor, carpenter’s helper and a lifeguard on the Jersey shore. Growing up on the Jersey shore Steve developed a love for sailing, swimming, surfing, fishing and boating.

As a result of his love for all water sports, Steve applied to go to college in Florida. He was accepted to Florida Technological University (now University of Central Florida) where he studied engineering and business. While in college, Steve was the head lifeguard at the University pool, managed a 20 unit townhouse complex and worked as a waiter. Steve was an officer in his fraternity and ran the college karate club.

Steve spent any possible free time over on the east coast surfing, boating or fishing. In November 1974 Steve went surfing at the Sebastian Inlet, came to Vero Beach for lunch. This was Steve's first introduction to Vero Beach, which left a lasting impression.

Upon graduation from UCF in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Finance, Steve took a job with the Florida Department of Transportation, as an acquisition agent, in Fort Lauderdale. After approximately two years with the Department of Transportation, Steve was hired as the vice president of a small construction company that had 25 employees. Over the next two years the company grew to just over 100 employees.

Steve met Cathy in 1980, married in 1982 and decided to return to the real estate business as an appraiser. Most of his appraisal assignments involved properties on the Treasure Coast. In December 1984, Steve and Cathy with their newborn son, Stephen, moved to North Hutchison Island. In 1987 their second child Caitlin was born in Indian River Memorial Hospital.

In 1992, Steve was offered a job in New Jersey with Midlantic Bank to oversee the reevaluation of the Florida loan portfolio. After completing the revaluation of the Florida portfolio for Midlantic Bank in 1993, Steve and the family returned to Florida and Steve opened Boyle Appraisal Service in Vero Beach.

As the business expanded, Steve took on a partner and the company name was changed to Boyle & Drake in 1996. Boyle & Drake has continued to provide real estate appraisal and consulting services to the Treasure Coast and throughout Florida since 1996.

Steve is a licensed State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser and holds the MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute. Steve's clients include the national, regional and local banks, various national, state and city governmental agencies (FDEP, SJRWMD, SFWMD, FAA, GSA, FDOT), attorneys, accountants and individuals.

Steve and Cathy raised their family in Vero Beach. Both children have returned to live and work in Vero Beach. Steve and Cathy have two granddaughters Clara and Molly from their son Stephen and his wife Tricia and one granddaughter Chloe from their daughter Caitlin and her husband Cameron.

When not working, Steve enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, participating in all forms of water sports and outdoor activities, is on the Board of Directors for his homeowners association, a past director for the Florida East Coast Chapter of the Appraisal Institute and served on the Experience Review, and the Standards and Ethics committees for the Appraisal Institute. He is a member of the Hundred Club, the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce, the Coastal Conservation Association, the Clean Water Coalition and Ducks Unlimited. He has been involved with other various clubs and organizations over the years.
