Candidate's Statement

Rob Schoonover www.SchoonoverForSheriff.com Contact us! Campaign@SchoonoverForSheriff.com 904.349.0703 Or write to: 4446 Hendricks Ave, Suite 219 Jacksonville, FL 32007 Souse: Jeannie Schoonover Daughter: Stacy Schoonover, 19 Religious Affiliation: Christian Biography: Lt. Rob Schoonover, the only candidate who has risen through every department of Jacksonville\'s crime-fighting ranks, has devoted his life to protecting our community in a kaleidoscope of forms.  As a longtime First Coast resident and a member of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for 33 years, Schoonover has built a broad understanding of our community and its needs. During the course of his career, he has served in every JSO division. Rob started out in 1981 as a 21-year-old correctional officer at the old Duval County Jail. His father was police officer for 25 years in New Jersey, so he said the choice to serve in law enforcement felt natural. “It was in my family,” he said. While he trained at police academy, Schoonover dedicated himself to challenging, full-time work at the jail during the day and took night classes. Upon graduation, he was instated as a patrol officer with JSO. Schoonover advanced through the force’s ranks to become first a sergeant and then a lieutenant. Along the way, he has held important posts in divisions that touch our community the most. In the technology division, Rob handled high-profile murder and assault cases, administering and analyzing polygraph tests and even drawing out accurate confessions from suspects. Respected homicide detective Dan Jansen, a sergeant with JSO, said: “When Schoonover was commander of the homicide, cold case and missing persons unit, the division achieved the highest rate of solving murder cases that Jacksonville has ever experienced. As sheriff, his command of every department and his leadership of reducing violent crime will rank Jacksonville as one of the safest cities in America.\"” Lieutenant Schoonover most recently served JSO as patrol watch commander in Jacksonville’s Northside area and coordinated the efforts of 16 officers plus two sergeants, who all report to him. Rob has also contributed to a seamless, strong law enforcement presence through the years at some of the First Coast’s most iconic events, including the Super Bowl, the Gate River Run and the annual Florida-Georgia football game. His long tenure has provided U.S. Presidential escorts alongside the secret service, and served as the director of security for the Suns Baseball organization for the past decade. Rob has been married to his wife, Jeannie, for 23 years. Their teenage daughter, Stacy, studies at Boston University. The Schoonovers attend Christ’s Church in Mandarin. After 33 years of tough work with the JSO, Schoonover exemplifies the valor of uniformed service. Working his way through every division, his attention to detail and dedication to success has continually brought inspired results throughout the force. Rob firmly believes in his 2-part plan [The Bridge to Safety Plan] that will guide the entire Jacksonville Sheriff\'s office into an era of unparalleled CRIME-SOLVING and CRIME-PREVENTION. Rob believes prevention begins with our youth. As former Executive Director of the Police Athletic League (PAL) He\'s committed to comprehensive initiatives involving sports, faith, peer-to-peer, and drug education in far-reaching initiatives for high-crime neighborhoods. Rob said: \"Let\'s teach our children in solemn remembrance about our brave heroes who paid such a high price for our constitutional liberties.\"
