Candidate: Lisa King

Lisa King is a native of Jacksonville, educated in Jacksonville Public Schools. She graduated from Stetson University with a degree in Political Science in 1984. Lisa has been a small business leader for over 22 years, advising cities and counties throughout Florida on program development and working in real estate development in downtown Jacksonville, Gainesville and Sarasota. In 2014, she was awarded as a \"Woman of Influence\" by the Jacksonville Business Journal for small business leadership and community service. She and her husband settled their family on Heckscher Drive in 1998, drawn to the natural beauty of the area and the warmth of its people. Husband John is a retired business manager. Lisa is a proud Navy mom. Son, Ian, a Stanton and UF graduate, is a Navy LTJG stationed at King\'s Bay. He and wife Brittany, a public school teacher, welcomed Lisa\'s first grandchild, Aubrey, in June of 2014. They recently purchased a home in District 2. Daughter Kelsey, is a Paxon and FSCJ nursing school graduate, and a former lifeguard at Huguenot Park. Daughter Callan is a student at Stanton. Lisa has served her community throughout her life. Most recently she established the Heckscher Drive Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and serves as Incident Commander. CERT teams assist our firefighters in disaster response, particularly important in our coastal community. She is a ferry ambassador, volunteering to greet ferry riders on the weekend, and has served as Vice President of Friends of the St. Johns River Ferry for 15 years. She has served on the Vestry of St. George Episcopal Church and is a Lay Reader and Eucharistic Minister. Through her involvement with Friends of the St. Johns River Ferry and the Heckscher Drive Community Club she wrote the successful grant applications that funded the Ferry Pavilion building and the Heckscher Drive Town Center. Lisa was appointed to Jacksonville\'s Planning Commission in 2012 and was confirmed by an unanimous vote of the Jacksonville City Council. She was elected by her peers on the Commission to serve as its Vice-Chair in 2014. In 2013 she was nominated and confirmed by the City Council to serve on the Jacksonville Housing and Community Development Commission and was elected to serve as Co-Chair. Lisa King is a leader who understands that real solutions require working together.
