Candidate: Joyce Morgan

Growing up in a military family, Joyce Morgan learned the value of family and service to the community at an early age. She was greatly influenced by her parents, an Army Sergeant father who served in Korea and two stints in Vietnam and a mother that juggled her career at the Army Air Force Exchange Service while raising four children. Born in Louisiana, Joyce’s family relocated many times to Alabama, Georgia and abroad in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. These multicultural living experiences enabled her to develop into a hard worker, sensitive to the growing diversity of our community and committed to becoming a strong advocate addressing the most important issues facing the Arlington area today. Joyce has lived in Jacksonville for the past 25 years and has been actively involved in the Arlington area for over 15 years. She served as Ft. Caroline Elementary PTA President, Board Member of the Ft. Caroline Elementary School SAC, and Chairperson of the Greater Arlington Relay for Life. An innovator and visionary, Joyce developed and implemented Life Skills workshops for the PACE Center for Girls and organized Women Business Owners events at Jacksonville University’s Davis School of Business. A former news anchor for WJXT-TV 4, Joyce focused on education, health and community reporting. During her more than 25 years of reporting local and national news, and interviewing local, national and international personalities, she sharpened her knowledge and understanding of what is essential to a strong community, such as Arlington. This knowledge and experience defines her campaign focus: Economic Development, Community Safety and Education. She is a free lance media and community outreach consultant for the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization which provides Joyce greater engagement with the public, observing firsthand the challenges in our communities and the need for effective voices in City Council. She is also a PR Director for a family fast food franchise. Joyce is married to Richard Danford Jr. and they have three children: Faith, Morgan and Richard III. They are members of Bethel Baptist Institutional Church. Joyce Morgan is a consensus builder, and a dedicated and caring citizen of Jacksonville, who will be the voice of commitment and a servant for the citizens of District 1.
