Candidate's Statement

Doyle Carter, Candidate for Jacksonville City Council, District 12, brings the conservative philosophies of old fashion values and common sense government by having less government, improving Westside infrastructure and for a brighter future of life for your children,grandchildren and his. The citizens of District 12 need a leader with experience and determination to make a difference and to bring back trust in government, making government accountable and to create jobs for people of District 12 and Jacksonville. Doyle is a lifelong Westside and District 12 resident to which he is still living on the property homesteaded by his great grandparents in the late 1800’s, early 1900’s. He is the son of John “Bud” Carter and Shirley Altman Carter, grandson of J.F. “Buddy” and Louise Altman. Born May 13, 1955, Doyle attended Thomas Jefferson Elementary, Ramona Elementary, Joseph Stillwell Junior High School and Ed White High School. He owned and operated a successful small business for 29 years and was faced with having to deal with government regulations, employees and payroll taxes. Doyle is a member of Old Plank Road Baptist Church. He has served as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Director, Treasurer and Finance and on the Building, Grounds and Missions committees. He is also the Athletic Director for Old Plank Christian Academcy. Doyle has a strong commitment for his faith, community and family as his testimonial walk reflects. Doyle has been married to his wife, Trish, for 28 years and together they have three beautiful children, Heather, Meagan, D.J. and one granddaughter, Piper. Doyle has worked hard for his family and community by serving on the City Council, District 12, from 1999 -2003 and 2011 to current. During this time he has worked hard for small businesses knowing the issues they have firsthand with paying payroll, taxes and government regulations. He sponsored two bills for extra homestead for seniors and worked to make Senior programs more active. He fought for and acquired New Fire Station 57 on Beaver Street, the moving on Station 32 and Station 43 in Baldwin. He fought for businesses to come to Cecil Field: Bridgestone, FedEx, Flightstar, GE, LSI, Shaft and others for 4,000+ jobs. He served on Transportation Board to work for new interchange at I295/Collins Road, I10/Marietta, Hammond Blvd. and roads for Cecil. Doyle feels the city needs experienced leadership and leaders who have experienced the tough economic times. He has served on the board of the Justice Coalition, Board of the Center of Independent Living, Construction Trades Qualifying Board, The Westside Kiwanis Club, Citizen Planning Advisor Committee, the Hyde Park Masonic Lodge, Morocco Shrine, the Westside Republican Club, the Westside Business Leaders, Westside Civic Association, NRA, Crystal Springs PTA, SAC and past board member of Normandy and Marietta Athletic Associations. Also he has coached at Normandy, Marietta, Whitehouse, Baldwin Middle/High School and was the Head Coach of Softball at Paxon School for Advanced Studies. Doyle wants it to be said if you want to live in the best city in America you will have to move to Jacksonville, Florida.
