Candidate's Statement

Lindsey Brock – Candidate for City Council Dist. 2 Lindsey Brock is the effective candidate with the leadership, accountability and vision to bring a consensus for solutions to the issues facing our community. Lindsey speaks with knowledge, vision, and experience about the solutions needed for a fiscally responsible government that will lead to managed growth, restoration of businesses and stronger neighborhoods. Lindsey Brock is connected to our community. He grew up in Arlington and graduated from Terry Parker High School. He grew up in the youth group at North Jacksonville Baptist Church. After graduating from Terry Parker High School he then received his degree from the University of Florida, and went on to obtain a law degree and a master’s degree in maritime law before coming back to Jacksonville – his home. Lindsey met his wife, Carol Stowers Brock, at North Jacksonville Baptist Church, where they were married. He worked to grow a law practice in Jacksonville to serve the people and businesses in our area and beyond. He is a small business owner and understands the day-to-day struggles facing small business owners. Lindsey Brock understands families. Raising two children, son, Connor, and daughter, Caitlin, with his wife, Carol, gives him a perspective about the needs of families and their struggles. He knows strong families and active children help lower crime, promote education and create communities where people want to live, learn and grow their lives. Lindsey and Carol are blessed to have their parents here in Jacksonville. Carol’s parents, Tom and Chiquita Stowers live in the Cape on the Northside of Jacksonville and Lindsey’s parents, Lindsey and Billie Brock, live along Heckscher Drive. Carol, is a second-career teacher at Lone Star Elementary. They also invest their time in young couples at East Pointe Church, where they teach Bible studies and Lindsey has served as a deacon and administrator of the church’s discipleship ministry. Together he and Carol work to pass on those qualities of faith, family and community that are the foundation of their life together. Lindsey Brock has the leadership and experience to work with others to achieve real solutions. When Lindsey and other Terry Parker graduates heard about the challenges at their alma mater, Lindsey worked with them to create the Terry Parker High School Alumni Fund, Inc. This charitable organization serves as a link to the community and raised over $130,000 for the school. Now other schools in Duval County followed their lead and are now using this model to rally alumni support. This is the kind of solution-based leadership that our city needs to face today’s challenges. Lindsey Brock knows that servant leadership makes a difference. He serves as the Vice President of the Arlington Council of the Jax Chamber, is an active member of the North Council, and serves on the JAX Chamber Public Policy Committee. Lindsey is working to build the advisory board for the Arlington YMCA and develop its leadership. As Vice President of the Greater Arlington Civic Council Lindsey has worked with homeowners and businesses about rezonings and development that are compatible with neighborhoods and preserve everyone\'s property rights.Lindsey was asked to serve as the President of the Friends of the St. Johns River Ferry to bring leadership and continue the group’s efforts for a cost effective solution to maintain this important transportation service. As a maritime lawyer, Lindsey led the effort of Florida Coastal School of Law to create a Masters of Law program in transportation and logistics – the first of its kind in the country. He is involved in the efforts to bring LNG facilities to the Jacksonville port for ships, trucks and trains. He serves as the newly appointed Chair of the Admiralty Law Committee of the Florida Bar leading discussions on new developments in the law. Lindsey understands how vital the port is for Jacksonville’s future and worked with the Jax Chamber to create the Transportation and Logistics Industry Council as the founding President of this council. To sum it all up, Lindsey’s leadership, accountability and vision are recognized by others and he wants to put his skills to work for the citizens of District 2. Lindsey will bring a positive plan to City Council to bring measured growth, renewed investment, and good paying jobs to our communities. He can effectively lead others to join in a vision to control and prioritize spending, streamlining our local government to make our city ready to lead in sustained economic growth. Lindsey Brock believes in making government work.
