Candidate: Melinda (Mindy) Kirsch Brown

Judge Melinda Brown was born and raised in Miami, Florida and became a resident of Broward County in 1988. Judge Brown received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Criminology from Florida State University and her Law degree from Nova Law School.

After serving as an Assistant State Attorney in Broward County and after a successful private practice, Judge Brown was appointed by the Chief Judge in Broward County to serve as a General Magistrate in 2004. Judge Brown presided over Family Law cases and other Domestic Relation cases until she was elevated to serve as a County Court Judge in 2010. 

Judge Brown continues to serve as a County Court Judge in the Criminal division and has been re-elected in 2012 and 2018.

Judge Brown has served as an instructor at the Judicial College, Advanced Judicial Studies Program and the Traffic Adjudication Lab in fostering the education of other Judges throughout the State of Florida. Judge Brown also serves as the Chair of the County Court Criminal Rules Committee and as Chair of the County Court Professionalism committee.

Judge Brown, in addition to serving in her position as a County Court Judge, serves the people of our community by her volunteer work with various charitable organizations including but not limited to volunteering for the Make-A-Wish Foundation for over 32 years as a wish grantor and supporter as well as serving on the boards of the Jewish Community Center in Plantation, (Soref JCC) and the Broward Children’s Center. Judge Brown has served on the Special Olympics Board as well as on the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home Advisory Board.

In recognition of her volunteer work Judge Brown was the recipient of the inaugural International Volunteer of the Year Award from the Make-A-Wish Foundation in 2015.

Judge Brown has participated in many legal organizations supporting the legal community including holding the position of President for the legal professional organization Inns of Court.

Judge Brown is grateful and honored to continue serving the people of Broward in her current position as County Court Judge.
