Candidate's Statement

Dameka Davis is an attorney, mother, business owner, and hardworking nine (9) year resident of Broward County. She is deeply rooted in the community and invested in its growth and development. Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, home of the infamous 1920 Race Riot, she undoubtedly recognizes how major inequities can negatively impact diverse communities and obstruct the forward path to sustainable growth. In times of crisis, such as the current COVID-19 pandemic, these disparities become exceedingly evident in our community. With this and other factors in mind, Davis entered the race for Broward County Commissioner-District 6 for three important reasons: To improve opportunities and relations of marginalized communities; To prevent the insolvency facing senior citizens through legislation; and, to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare in Broward County. Her proposed interventions would guarantee equitable change for our district and most importantly, positively affect all citizens of our great County.

Davis is the founder of Davis Legal Center, a leading criminal defense and civil rights law firm in Hollywood, Florida. Under her leadership, the firm participates in countless cases advocating for victims of federal civil rights violations and defending the accused with the aim of restoring human dignity and ensuring equal access to justice.

Davis holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Economics from Clark Atlanta University. Education set a precedent for the individual Davis has become. Inspired by her childhood dream to see a world where opportunities are available and accessible to everyone, she obtained a Juris Doctorate at Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Upon graduation, she joined the Miami Dade State Attorney Office as an Assistant State Attorney. As an Assistant State Attorney she tried cases to protect the most vulnerable of our society and contributed earnestly to community development in and out of court rooms.

Davis enters this race with several years of selfless dedication, perseverance, and experience in serving the great state of Florida and the Broward County community. As County Commissioner – District 6, she will serve this honorable office with the courage, vibrancy, and energetic leadership our citizens deserve. Without a doubt, the time for equitable change beneficial to all in Broward County is now.
