Candidate's Statement

I am a Former Broward County resident.  I resided in Broward County over 12 years.

I have only resided in Wakulla County since the early part of 2018, mainly based on State employment in Tallahassee.  I resided in Broward County from 1990-1991, 1993-2003, part of 2009 and again between 2017-2018.  I have elderly parents that reside in Hallandale Beach (Broward County). Mom is Olga Bronhard (89) and dad is Henry Bronhard (83), both residents of Broward County since 2002.  Mom is very ill and was in the hospital, and now home with nursing care, instead of nursing home because of virus concerns.  I had an uncle name Stanley Bronhard who lived in Broward County for years prior to passing. I had a grandfather named Walter Bronhard who lived in Broward County for years prior to passing.  Prior to being a resident in 1990, I had visited Broward many times visiting both my uncle and grandfather.

I decided on running in Broward County based on proximity to my parents and a large voting population that will be hopefully less likely to discriminate against me being originally born in Brooklyn, N.Y and Staten Island, N.Y.  I am of Polish and Italian descent. The voters in the Panhandle voted for locals that had been in the community with family ties that stretched over generations. I decided against another Panhandle race at the moment.  Also, there are no Judge seats on the ballot in Wakulla.

Overall, I believe I am providing the voters an opportunity to make a decision on who should be their Judge, rather than just a prior Governor’s appointment (Rick Scott).  Why should a recent appointment run unopposed and be elected without opposition? I don’t believe the voters in Broward County really want lawyers not to challenge recent appointments and take away their chance in deciding who will best serve the community.  I will not, nor can I make partisan comments.  All too often, attorneys fear running against someone appointed by a Governor.  Voters of Broward County now have a chance to decide on voting for someone less financially and politically privileged.

I believe I will be impartial and make decisions with integrity and not be influenced by the “who is who” and “who makes contributions, nor is connected…”  While, I don’t have the resources or connections like some other candidates, as I am the less fortunate, I should "NOT," nor anyone else be discouraged based on other candidates being more privileged, as the only type of candidate worthy of running.  Voters in Broward County should have a choice of who they vote for beyond the insider privileged or financially privileged and make their decision.  Based on this, I believe I will be the most impartial and make decisions based on the law and not connections, nor contributions will be an influencing factor.  Please realize, I am not making any direct comments about the sitting Judge, she has not held that seat that long.  My comments are based on my nearly ten years of employment at the Courthouse in Broward.

As the law provides, a State Judicial appointment, unlike a Federal appointment, is not a life-time appointment and voters now have a chance on deciding for themselves, instead of a select few privileged political insiders in Broward.

The basis of a contested elections is that Judges should be decided based on the many voters that comprise the electorate and not only the few politically or financially privileged insiders.

I believe I can serve the voters of Broward County with compassion and integrity.  I believe I will be a better representation of the voting population and be the most impartial in decisions rendered.  I am providing the voters an opportunity to have a choice.

I have been licensed as an attorney since 1991. I worked for a large accounting firm as a Tax Consultant in Fort Lauderdale from 1990-1991.  I worked as a Judicial Staff Attorney in Broward County commencing in 1993.  I worked in many divisions under the Circuit Judges, drafting many recommended decisions.  I was promoted in 1997 to Court Probate Counsel and served from 1997-2002.  I do have private litigation experience.  I served as a Senior Attorney for the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.  I currently serve as an attorney for the Florida Commission on Human Relations in Tallahassee and review cases on discrimination law including public accommodations and whistleblower cases.

I will not engage in partisan politics because the ethics code doesn’t allow this.

Also, having worked at the Courthouse, I am very aware that Judges know who their contributors are despite the ethics code allowing for practicing attorneys to make contributions and Judge candidates accepting contributions.  Being the less financed candidate, should be clear that I will not be influenced, and I will be impartial in my decision-making abilities to render fair judgments and treat litigants on an even playing field.

I ran prior in smaller counties based on a lack of resources, where I was able to get my name on the ballot with petition process, but these counties were very prejudicial against someone born in New York.

I was employed at an accounting firm in Fort Lauderdale as a Tax consultant between 1990-1991. I resided in an apartment at the Banyan Bay near Atlantic Blvd.  I then moved to New York again and obtained a LL.M Degree in Taxation from N.Y.U. Law School.   I attended SUNY Buffalo Law School for my J.D.  and St. John’s University for my Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

In 1993, I relocated to Broward and resided in Hollywood, on Ocean Drive until my parents purchased a condo in Hillsboro Beach at 1150 Hillsboro Mile, Apt 314. I was employed at the courthouse with both positions between 1993-2002 (October).  Also, I worked for several real estate offices in Broward County.   During my employment, my parents and I sold the condo in Hillsboro Beach and obtained a condo on Bayview Drive, that was then sold in 2002.  My parents own a small condo in Hallandale at 430 Golden Isles Drive, #601.
