Candidate's Statement

Voting is the most fundamental American right – it ensures that all of our other rights are protected. I feel passionately about protecting the rights of all Americans – starting with those in Broward County.”

Catherine McBreen is an attorney and business owner skilled in ensuring that operational services are being completed in the best interests of the end beneficiary – in this case, the Broward County voter.  Catherine was raised in a farming community in the Midwest, lived for many years in the Chicago area where the corruption of the political system was overwhelming.  Catherine and her husband moved recently to the Florida area where they are enjoying the many benefits offered by the Sunshine State.  Because she is just learning about politics in Florida, Catherine  “owes” nothing to anyone in the system.  This allows Catherine to be fair to all voters regardless of political affiliation.  Catherine graduated from Northwestern University in Illinois and then attended DePaul College of Law.  Her first job was working as an attorney with a large law firm, Hopkins and Sutter, to close savings and loans during the crisis in the late 1980s.  She then used her banking and compliance expertise to work as Trust Counsel at Harris Trust in Chicago.  There she worked on ensuring the bank complied with multiple regulatory frameworks to remain in compliance.  She oversaw operations and committees to make sure the bank continued to maintain its role as a fiduciary.  She also ran a department that did recordkeeping for defined contribution plans.  Catherine left the bank to join Spectrem Group, a firm specializing in consulting work in the trust and investment management industries.  This work involved in-depth analysis and review of operational procedures at multiple types of financial organizations.  Spectrem Group also does extensive research with individuals regarding their financial decisions.  She has authored two books, the first published in 2007 with George Walper, Jr. entitled Get Rich, Stay Rich, Pass it On:  The Wealth Accumulation Secrets of America’s Wealthiest Families and the second The Republican Dream Team of 2016 with Kathleen Seei.  Her expertise in the financial services industry has led to appearances on many TV and radio shows including Fox Business, CNBC and others.  Catherine is married and the mother of four children.

Catherine will fight to ensure that Broward county elections no longer make the national news unless it is as a model for efficiency and fairness.  She will act as a “fiduciary” for Broward County voters – meaning she will always act in the best interests of all voters in Broward County.  She will make sure all votes matter.  Elections will be fair and Catherine will pursue and prosecute voter fraud.  Catherine also believes it is important to teach future generations about the importance of voting and plans to work with Broward school districts to develop a future voter education program.
