My name is Camden Smit and I am running to be your next Wakulla County School Board Member for District 4. My husband, Chad Smit, grew up in Wakulla County and we have lived here after meeting in college at the University of Florida. After graduation, it did not take much for him to convince me to move to this beautiful county back in 2012. Soon after, my family followed, and we all call Wakulla County home now! I couldn’t have asked for a better place to raise our two boys, CJ (5) and Gray (3). Both of them are starting their educational journey, which is one of the reasons driving me to take an active role in their education. I want to ensure that they have every educational opportunity afforded to them, along with every other student in Wakulla County. As parents, we share a common goal – to provide the best possible opportunities for our children. It is with this goal in mind that I pledge to bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a steadfast dedication to the role of your Wakulla County School Board Member.
Many citizens in this county have come to know me through my work within our local school system. I have taught at both Shadeville Elementary School and Riversprings Middle School. As the Associate Dean of Student Services at Riversprings Middle School, I continually strived to serve students and educators, keeping students and families at the center of every decision I made. Prior to settling in Wakulla County, we moved around for a few years, which allowed me the opportunity to work in other school districts including Brevard County School District, Gulf County School District, and Florida Virtual School. These experiences gave me more knowledge and expertise on how different school districts handle various processes and procedures. In addition to my passion as a teacher and associate dean in the school system, I also have a love for learning how to help students and families in education. I earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from American College of Education (ACE) and am almost finished with a doctoral degree in Instructional Technology and Leadership at ACE.
My motivation to help others started at an early age. I have always held leadership positions and am passionate about serving and giving back to our community. I am a member of the Strategic Planning Team for Wakulla County, as well as the Nutritional Development Council. I am also involved in events that benefit our community, as well as an active member of my church.
With my experience and education, I want to be YOUR voice for students and families in this county. Leadership is shown through action, and I am here to serve you. I am honest, respectful, and reliable. I vow to always keep the best interests of students and families at the forefront. I believe in the power of quality education to transform lives and shape our community for the better. Let’s work together to build a school system that will prepare our students for a bright and promising future! Come show your support on August 20th, 2024, and vote Camden Smit for Wakulla County School Board District 4.
