Candidate's Statement

Hello, my name is Tom Lord and I am hoping you will give me the honor of representing YOU on the St. Cloud City Council, Seat #4.

Before I tell you why I am running, let me tell you a little about myself.

I grew up in "the Manor" off Citrus Dr. and graduated from St. Cloud High School in 1994.

I've been working in restaurants and retail as a Store Manager since my twenties, and have worked for a large retail pharmacy in the same store for the last 14 years.

I have watched St. Cloud change over the years, and for a time, it was not something that bothered me too much.

It seemed like it was more "responsible growth", although that probably had more to do with the economy at that time.

And there was always a bad idea that would come along here and there that would have me scratch my head (anyone remember free citywide internet?), and water quality has always been an issue.

But the last 5 or 6 years in particular have disturbed me in many ways.

For a long time, I thought I was the only one bothered by the extreme rapid development, the horrible traffic that just seemed to be getting worse, and the consistent water issues.

Through social media and talking with neighbors, I realized I was not alone.

I became very active and outspoken about the things I see wrong and decided to "call out" some of our elected leaders, which some have not liked very much. It seems some of them have very thin skin.

It is time for our local government to come back into the hands of the people. We deserve to be heard and respected.

We here in St. Cloud are fortunate to have such an amazing City.

Great schools, a stunning Lakefront, a beautiful downtown area with some great local restaurants and lounges, strong police and fire departments, and an amazing sense of community unlike any other.

But we also have some issues that definitely need to be dealt with.

We have water issues that have been going on for far too long. We must be 100% sure what we are drinking, bathing, and washing with is safe and clean. It is 2021. This should not be an issue.

We have major traffic and infrastructure issues that should have been taken care of a long time ago, but continually get worse. What happened back in 2020 with the water main break by the police station, the sewage issues, and the 2 water main breaks we've had just this year are all inexcusable.

We also have out of control growth that adds to the above mentioned issue. Cookie cutter homes that are thrown together as fast as possible by huge developers that do not care about the buyer or the community, just the money they will make.

These will be the things I will aim to fix if given the opportunity to serve you.

I know, they all say the same things....

The difference with me is I already am, and have been working towards getting these issues attention and getting them resolved.

I am a member of Save Saint Cloud, a group of 5 local residents that volunteer to clean up the community, bring attention to the issues plaguing our City, and hold our elected leaders accountable for their actions.

We believe that coming together as a community, we can achieve things we couldn't do on our own.

I am hoping you will give me the opportunity to really get to work on these issues while retaining the "small town" appeal that we all love about St. Cloud.

I have a huge mountain to climb. I'm sure the people in power most certainly will not like my candidacy, and will try to make my run a difficult one. I will need all the help I can get.

But I have faith in our community. That we have seen enough and we want that change and want it now. We can do this, but we must do it together.

I want to represent you, the people. Not the large pockets of the developers or any other special interests.

I hope for and humbly ask for that opportunity.

Next November, vote for change. Get onboard with Tom Lord, and vote to really begin to Save Saint Cloud in 2022.
